@JamieTanna Hi, Jamie! I just noticed that link to OggCamp is broken in your blog post https://www.jvt.me/posts/2019/10/20/indieweb-talk/

↩️ I really like Apps Script Pulse @mhawksey. I always wonder where #IndieWeb and things like webmentions and post kinds fit with all of this. In some ways this sites reminds me of the collation of posts for IndieNews, which utilises 'Syndication-of'.

↩️ Hmmm very good point - I hadn't considered webmentions but it looks like there is a plugin for that that extends Press This https://github.com/indieweb/wordpress-indieweb-press-this/ I'll need to test install and update the post. Thanks for mentioning :)

[Rose]: As I am now planning to come to Berlin, do we want to try to put some suggested session ideas on the wiki? Brainstorming in advance worked once
#
[Rose]
Might be a nice idea!

[Rose]
Seems like a reasonable amount of effort for a good result all around
#
[Rose]
I’ve organised to bring a second iPad for Berlin
#
aaronpk
awesome
#
[Rose]
So I have iPad Equipment for two rooms which is a great start
#
aaronpk
i'm pretty happy with the intros and demos this time, which was a little more work than just using zoom, but worth it i think
#
aaronpk
recording the screens for intros/demos using zoom worked very well and was easier than other methods
#
[Rose]
Plus I’ll bring my Logitech Brio (4k) webcam or a camera and the voice recorder for intros/demos
#
[Rose]
Might bring both the webcam and the camera so we have a choice.
#
aaronpk
oh that reminds me of something i should add to the page
#
GWG
[Rose]: Let's talk so both of us can split what is being brought
#
[Rose]
Good idea

aaronpk: Are you thinking of coming to IWC SF or should I volunteer to take the lead on tech?

I ordered a cheap camcorder to test it with my budget setup
#
aaronpk
i probably won't make it to SF
#
GWG
Sometimes I waste money testing cheap solutions
#
aaronpk
yeah i think there's "cheap" and then there's "cheap"
#
GWG
Yes
#
[Rose]
Frugal vs cheap
#
GWG
But the experiments are worth it for when people who don't have resources want to participate
#
[Rose]
Amazon’s free returns policy definitely helps when testing equipment for these events
#
aaronpk
haha that's true
#
GWG
I will return this item if it doesn't seem to fit my needs
#
GWG
I am more frugal
#
GWG
I wanted to buy a better camcorder, but if I am only using it for IWCs, then I should try something else first before
#
[Rose]
I have a GoPro, but it’s wide angle which isn’t ideal for demos.

#
[Rose]
That said, it’s better than nothing.
#
aaronpk
better than nothing is a good start
#
[Rose]
I have a Canon point and shoot which I feel is likely better
#
aaronpk
the gopro has a "linear" mode that is closer in than its super wide angle, so that's something
#
[Rose]
It does? I shall have to look
#
aaronpk
i know it's in the Hero 5 and 7, not sure about other ones
#
aaronpk
double check that the canon can record longer than 20 minutes at a time, sometimes point and shoots can't
#
[Rose]
I have the 7 silver.
#
[Rose]
Thanks for the tip, I’m recharging the battery right now.
#
aaronpk
ooh the silver might not have the other video modes
#
aaronpk
might be only in the Black lines
#
GWG
I tried a Go Pro like knockoff, but the audio is horrible
#
aaronpk
audio from any camera is going to be horrible. the mic needs to be close up to the person speaking
#
aaronpk
that's the reason i brought the voice memo recorder. even just setting it on the table made way more useful audio
#
[Rose]
The trick is to use the camera audio just to sync up the other audio
#
[Rose]
Most cameras have poor audio
#
aaronpk
if it would be helpful i can upload a clip that compares the audio from the three different sources i have from the brighton recordings
#
[Rose]
The microphones are too far away from the subject
#
sknebel
yeah, recording limit is worth trying (although 30 mins is a common one in higher-quality cameras, due to customs reasons)
#
[Rose]
You can also use an iPhone or similar to do the video of the people at the event, as you’re recording video rather than using Zoom it won’t have the landscape issue…
#
[Rose]
I think I see the beginnings of a plan
#
aaronpk
good point
#
aaronpk
also actually vertical video isn't bad either
#
aaronpk
i cropped the video to a square anyway and stuck it in the corner
#
[Rose]
You mean because it’s being overlaid?
#
[Rose]
Aha, yes
#
aaronpk
or you could even put the vertical video next to the screen and have it wider than 9:16 anyway
#
aaronpk
er 16:9
#
[Rose]
We need a new Loqi feature: how tired is Aaron due to travel?
#
[Rose]
Ok, the GoPro does _not_ have the non-wide-angle video option
#
[Rose]
*my GoPro
#
[Rose]
Making it not ideal, but a good fallback
