Hello everyone!
#
[andi]
Is there a San Francisco local channel?
#
KartikPrabhu
[andi]: hi, welcome
#
KartikPrabhu
there is no spearate channel for local indieweb meetings. this would be the one for that
#
[andi]
Hi everyone! So I am planning a conference. The theme will be democratizing data + ownership through design. We’ll have some talks about blockchain and how it works. I’d also love to use this as an opportunity to partner Cascade designers with IWC devs, to improve the usability of existing plugins and apps to drive traffic to our own site.

[andi]
tantek aaronpk What do you think? ?
#
[andi]
This conference is for Cascade SF, but we’d partner with you for 1-2 hack days as part of the event and advertise us as a team.

Slowly, offline life keeps getting in the way

But we have a proper location for HWC now

And IWC Berlin is in 2 weeks
#

So I hope I'll get to do more there
#
j4y_funabashi
nice, will you be recording all the IWC Berlin sessions?

Not sure if we have the gear for that available

I got tangled up in first pulling a vast amount of content in to my site only to realise this is leading to bloat
#
petermolnar
so right now I'm trying to get things into separate places, eg. bookmarks, into wallabag
#

also starting to feel that my plumbing/publish ratio is leaning unhealthy towards plumbing these days :/

for my Mozfest session excercise I think getting my audience to think about why they use silos in the first place, listing the reasons/benefits and then discussing might link into the talk element of my session quite well to keep it interactive

[Sean Richard Lynch] @sikkdays Running into a lot of broken links and github repos with no recent commits on indieweb.org. I'm super excited about the possibilities but it seems like the movement may have moved on to other things. Mastodon, maybe?
#
calumryan
tantek: good plan
#
aaronpk
i need to set up fed.brigy
#
tantek
calumryan: if they have trouble coming up with some, you can start with asking them if they have encountered any of these problems (one at a time) https://indieweb.org/why#Avoiding_problems
#
aaronpk
do i have to be "me@"? I can't set my own username?
#
tantek
e.g. have you ever lost posts or other data you posted to a site when the site got shutdown, acquired, etc.
#
tantek
aaronpk lol see previously mentioned github issue on the topic (earlier today I think)
#
aaronpk
oops missed that
#
tantek
calumryan: or, have you ever tried to post (or read!) something on Twitter, FB, etc. only to have the site be down?
#
tantek
have you ever had content or your entire identity removed from a site?
#
jjuran
Or something was available in some countries, but not others?
#
snarfed
aaronpk: yeah 'me' is hard coded right now, but probably shouldn't be. feel free to weigh in on https://github.com/snarfed/bridgy-fed/issues/3
#

[00dani] #3 Shouldn't always assume the username "me"

biggest (re-)learning from building bridgy fed so far: i probably shouldn't have been the person to build it, since i don't use mastodon or any other fedsocnets myself :P
#
snarfed
scratch your own itch, indeed
#
aaronpk
I mean I don't use mastodon either, but I do want to comment on things there
#
aaronpk
I have no desire to establish a separate identity on a mastodon instance to do so
#
snarfed
that's enough! i don't even follow/read any mastodon users
#
aaronpk
I only do when they show up here ?
#
Loqi
[sikkdays ?] @seanl I do find the current model on the indieweb.org site somewhat troubling. It's like hybrid cars, a sort of middle ground until we go full electric. Really, we should all have our own site like Masto and connect through protocols similar to emai...
#
snarfed
i often feel like some things that don't exist *should* exist, like bridgy fed...but that's definitely not the same as an actual itch
#
KartikPrabhu
aaronpk: they are thinking that POSSE is somehow the main thing i guess
#
KartikPrabhu
that and probably the indieauth using silo accounts
#
aaronpk
if only i could reply to that
#
KartikPrabhu
also "don't make 'perfect' an enemy of the 'good' "
#
tantek
see also the web itself started as a hybrid that connected disparate protocols and formats
