# chrisaldrich [Rose] I just spun up an instance of Wallabag last week as a test to own my own version of Instapaper/pocket. But generally /bookmarks to my own site for want to read and then /read posts has been pretty simple in general.
# chrisaldrich cleverdevil also built https://www.indiepaper.io/ a while back
# [jgmac1106] morning everyone. go to bed [chrisaldrich]
# chrisaldrich I'm on my way... it is kinda late...
# chrisaldrich tho I just saw some of the convo on OpenEd.... I'll circle back on Sunday.
# [jgmac1106] ooh it is in AZ you should come

# [jgmac1106] Building a website for my HWC...gonna use Wordpress as it seems that is what most people will choose who attend
# nellkate1[m] It's great to hear about connecting the IndieWeb and education (thanks for the webpage), especially Open Education.
# [jgmac1106] What is education?
# Loqi Indieweb for Education is the application of indieweb principles to one's personal site with a particular emphasis on use cases for education, pedagogy, research, academic samizdat, and collaboration https://indieweb.org/education
# nellkate1[m] I'm glad the IndieWebCamp in New Haven went well. I was interested in a lot of the goals but I'm still just a beginner on the IndieWeb.
# [jgmac1106] @nellkate this isn't done yet but in this book there are case studies of #ds106, #walkmyworld, and #indieweb https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B4bnEbX-nqloNUxoa0pGdnczR0U?usp=sharing
# [jgmac1106] what is your website?
# [jgmac1106] being interested in goals is more important than skills or tech, being IndieWeb is just answering "My url is..." everything after that is just gravy
# [jgmac1106] In many ways the #openpedagogy part of #oer and open education took off same time as #indieweb folks trying to solve the same problem just entering the stack at different parts

# [jgmac1106] right now I am workign on a piece for example that Collin Brown and Duguid's idea of cognitive apprenticesips needs to be updated to agentive apprenticeship to account for "build for your self" and "network learning" that occurs between people and machines on IndieWeb
# nellkate1[m] Thank you so much for the link. I'm at the stage where I've been gathering scattered bits of myself from around the web. Found that I have set up 10 subdomains of websites/blogs over the last ten years (plus a hosted Moodle LMS). I did get a user page on brid.gy. Chosing a domain makes my head go round a bit, because it seems like you have to "choose wisely" because its the basis for organizing all your other web
# nellkate1[m] identities.

# nellkate1[m] Sorry!!!
# [jgmac1106] wow awesome! You have gotten far
# [jgmac1106] just need to copy and paste the webmention code
# nellkate1[m] Thank you! I was afraid I was overwhelming the chat room with my trivial stuff!
# [jgmac1106] webmentions are cool they do work better on wordpress.org sites rather than wordpress.com
# [jgmac1106] never at all, we even have a specail room called -dev for anyone's trivial stuff
# [jgmac1106] poem I wrote about this idea this morning: https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/2019/04/06/easy-does-not-existstrike-it-from-your
# nellkate1[m] I think that one of my long term goals will be to switch to wordpress.org I need to go read the wiki page on webmentions again. Like the poem!
# [jgmac1106] for the webmentions just use the wordpress.com getting started page
# [jgmac1106] Zegnat I am going to keep my HWC website on WordPress so I always have a model
# [jgmac1106] [nellkate1] we can help you here if you can't join the room on matrix...I mess that up all the time
# [jgmac1106] but basically you need to copy one line of HTML into your widget: https://archive.org/details/drmacswordpresstutorial/wordpress3addingbridgy.mp4
# [jgmac1106] if you are going to spend a lot of time on your website, and it fits your life right now, I would just make the jump to wp.org
# [jgmac1106] after bridgy and webmentions there isn't much more to do on WP.com except the unlimited in terms of making and sharing content...which is still a ton
# [jgmac1106] it is total overkill
# [jgmac1106] but I will need a model
# [jgmac1106] It will basically be WordPress running a single page site...with all the IndieWeb building blocks so I can provide a mentor text. After IWC New Haven lot of people took notice, may get busy
# nellkate1[m] Reading resources busily...thank you!
# [jgmac1106] no problem, off to take the kids to a trampoline birthday party, those places scare me way more than code
# [jgmac1106] [nellkate] on another note if you ever want to talk tutoring I ran a GearUp tutoring program in New Haven for years...its another passion

# nellkate1[m] Thank you very much! I'm always happy to talk with other people involved in tutoring/teaching, especially since I feel like I'm making it up as I go along. Good luck with the trampolines!!

# [kimberlyhirsh] Re: OpenEd, I'm thinking roundtable, maybe the promise of IndieWeb for portfolios/assignments (jgmac1106's edu522 is great for this) & also a lightning talk about open dissertations.

# [kimberlyhirsh] So after discussions with husband about the travel logistics, we're going to hold off on OpenEd until it's more easterly. I give my blessing if someone wants to run with it this year and lay a foundation for next year, when I might try to put together a full panel.

# [jgmac1106] I would recommend OER20 over OpenEd if I had to choose one... But that's just where more of philosophical people hang
# [jgmac1106] For the business and academic end the #stuff of #OER then OpenEd is place. I like the #ethos more

# Loqi It looks like we don't have a page for "lint" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "lint is ____", a sentence describing the term)
# [kimberlyhirsh] jgmac1106 yeah I think I'm already committed to AASL & YALSA, and YALSA overlaps with OpenEd.
# [kimberlyhirsh] If my IMLS grant gets the no-cost extension we requested, anyway.
