True, reply would be for them so I think I will probably better look at their social profiles or email to reply them if they’re open to. I do think some may be helpful for others so I guess that would be a post and mention theirs too. 🤔

They may *eventually* support webmentions so yes you should still post a reply on your site

You’re right, thanks. Will do.
#
[KevinMarks]
Also, if you send them through mention.tech they can look them up later
#
jacky
do we have a lot of people who tend to show replies / reactions on their own sites?
#
jacky
off the top of my head, I think manton and gregor don't but I know aaron and tantek do
#
jacky
is curious because he'd like to surface those in his reader
#
KartikPrabhu
[Ramiro_Ruiz]: in the past I have replied to posts on sites which don't have webmention but have a comment system (like Wordpress sites). I copy paste the reply into their comment system. On my site, I use reply-to and also add a syndicated-to to the copy on their comment section
#
[Ramiro_Ruiz]
That’s a nice approach @KartikPrabhu Thanks

hmm, so, downside to my bridgy setup is it can’t seem to distinguish the case where a post is POSSEd and where I posted a link into a discussion, which leads to occasional burps like the flood of notifications at https://beesbuzz.biz/blog/1286-The-commoditization-of-free-time

[fluffy] true! bridgy is deliberately promiscuous
#
[fluffy]
yeah I just opened a github issue
#
[fluffy]
on the other hand I can see a use case for it behaving the way it currently does, too

heh, yup, tradeoffs
#
[snarfed]
moderation in receivers (with or without nice UX) mean you can always remove unwanted backfeed, but it's harder to go get some you do want if bridgy never sent it. so i err on sending more

that happens to me on micro.blog sometimes, if I add a feed from Mastodon I reply and forget the person will never receieve the reply unless I log into Mastodon and poy/paste...I never do that.

Hey guys
#
ShokuninDiscord[
Odd question but is there any ways that you feel we could make Gmail more Indieweb friendly?
#
KartikPrabhu
what's the use-case/
#
gRegorLove
what is gmail?
#
Loqi
Gmail is an email reading, composing, and searching client and service hosted by Google https://indieweb.org/gmail
#
gRegorLove
There's a backup section on there^. But yeah, kind of depends what you're looking for.
#
gRegorLove
Something I've been trying to do more is set up forwarding emails on my domain. It ends up in my gmail account, but it makes those addresses more portable if I wanted to forward them somewhere else
#
gRegorLove
Might be kinda #indieweb-dev chat

My email address on my domain is powered by gmail, so it's already pretty IndieWeb friendly I guess
#
[KevinMarks]
You could make Gmail more indieweb friendly by bringing back Google profiles so we could use rel=me auth with Google accounts again.

Does anyone know if Homebrew Website Club is going to be streaming anywhere this week? I'm still struggling with getting Ditchbook working on Windows but don't want to bug [cleverdevil] out of the blue/at an inconvenient time.
#
aaronpk
nice to see youtube explicitly clarifying something that has always been true with silos 😂
#
[arush]
[aaronpk] yeah it's about time they were honest about it.
#
[schmarty]
[arush]: regarding [cleverdevil] - i think homebrew website club san francisco is his local meetup. i don't believe that they typically stream their meetings, and am not sure when he was last in attendance there.
#
[schmarty]
hopefully he can find some time to help you out, anyway! if i remember correctly, he recently was in the indieweb-dev channel talking about difficulties with ditchbook related to facebook changing their data dump format.
#
[arush]
Hopefully the data dump change won't be the issue since this archive is almost a year old. Will look in dev channel though. Thanks Marty.

I contributed to a visual mistake on your site, but I know you modded Indieweb publisher, so I am unsure if I fix it, what your changes were
