https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2019-jealousy-list/ Bloomberg's jealous list has a quirky little animation feature on it as you scroll.

I'm curios what everyone's year-end IndieWeb jealousy lists would look like? i.e. What website features do other sites have that you wish your site did?

This could be an interesting way to generate some /itches to work on over the holidays, for /2020-01-01-commitments, or into the new year.

been thinking about how "itches" is a negative term. an itch is a distracting irritation. scratching an itch is temporary relief. even "solving" an itch is just a return to a state of non-irritation. 🤔

stopped using itch a long time ago

[jgmac1106]
I can't imagine walking into a girl scout troop and saying...."now let's find that itch to scratch"

My goals works for me
#
[schmarty]
more and more i like the framing of cooking/food. i am starting to also think about it like yoga/practice.
#
[schmarty]
so less "my indieweb setup" from a plumbing and technical perspective but "my indieweb practice" from a standpoint of actions and results.
#
[jgmac1106]
indieweb practice is awesome
#
[schmarty]
("practice" also highlights that it is ongoing work, you're never done.)

If I use a metaphor been kind of leaning on houses/architecture/urban plannning, but really just not using them when not needed saying goals and tasks for itches, testing and building myself for self-dogfooding
#
jgmac1106
I really like your idea though of getting at the ethos of practice and not just the stuff of plumbing, ethos/stuff divide always interest me in the digital

schmarty++ for the term practice. may try using that more myself

Starting to read this which seems quite IndieWeb relevant (both in terms of warnings of what to avoid, and perhaps things we can do better at) https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/josephbernstein/in-the-2010s-decade-we-became-alienated-by-technology

2010s were the decade of the smart phone. It's not a coincidence that people adopting shit computers happened at the same time.
#

Pretty much everything wrong about the 'net is because of devs shifting to target smart phones.

Question on h-feeds: Do people split up content by type? And can you have a nested h-feed?

rose: I've got a feed of (almost) everything on the site on https://www.jvt.me/ but then have a feed for each content type i.e. /posts/ or /kind/notes/

Known has a feed for everything as does post kinds.
#
[jgmac1106]
But others suggest one feed and relying on post type discovery.
#
[jgmac1106]
That is more dev and I don't know the ins and outs
#
[schmarty]
I've started splitting out things I consider "noisy". My likes are no longer on my main posts feed, for example. Likewise podcast listens have their own separate feed.

Bleh. I'm done with webmention. Bad protocol. I'll leave the microformats markup but RSS is better for all things.

/Huffduffer does this for almost everything on it's site too, though geared more toward podcast form. Feeds for tags, people, collectives, etc.
#
chrisaldrich
Feeds for all the things certainly let's people pick and choose what they want from your site.

superkuh, I'm curious what about Webmention you were having trouble with?
