petermolnar on the why I think of aws (and any other cloud provider) this way: they way they set up billing is so opaque - egress, ingress, i/o costs, etc - that if one makes a mistake, or, say, gets on top of HN, suddenly the previously very cheap hosting becomes an absolutely insane bill.
