i like how thingiverse shows "makes" as a response type
#
aaronpk
and it's a photo grid of all the photo responses people posted of their own prints of the thing
#
[tantek]
interesting. I suppose with digital photos you could have "prints" as a response type ... of people posting their own prints of the photos 🙂

nothing special on the plumbing side of my site, it's "just" a blog post

i particularly like the end: "Did you make a print of this? Tweet a photo and include the link to this blog post to be featured in the comments below!"

Very nice!! And we now have at least two examples of people posting 3D models to their own sites! I've also got makes on mine!

With the recent wave of social media censorship, this would seem to create a real opening for Indieweb principles
#
petermolnar
I'm inclined to say there's not such thing as "social media" censorship. It's moderation, according to the "values" of a private company.
#
Matt1
Yes, they have a right to do.

What I'm saying - like in Trump's case, once his channels got blocked, he had no avenue left to communicate.
#
Matt1
If he had his own (IndieWeb) website, he could have continued communicating.
#
petermolnar
I don't really see a benefit in approaching Trump with indieweb ideas.
#
Matt1
Why not? Isn't that the point of the IndieWeb, that people can control their own information?

Also, why does it show me as "Matt1" instead of my website name? I'm logged in.

what is IRC?
#
Loqi
Internet Relay Chat (abbreviated IRC), in particular the #indieweb channel on the irc.freenode.net server, is the primary community discussion forum for IndieWebCamp and anything about the IndieWeb https://indieweb.org/IRC
#
petermolnar
chat is on Freenode, the room named #indieweb-chat

how is it off topic? it’s about what IndieWeb is and what it isn’t, right? seems on-topic to me
#
petermolnar
my opinion on the specific case above is offtopic :)
#
sebsel
in the same way private companies have the right to moderate values on their platforms, I think the IndieWeb community has the right not to actively share IndieWeb stuff with certain group. We don’t have to bring it to them, but since it’s open, they can figure it out for themselves
#
sebsel
that said: while most IndieWeb tech is open, the IndieWeb community has a code of conduct.
#
sebsel
what is the CoC?
#
Loqi
IndieWeb code of conduct tl;dr: Be respectful of other people, respectfully ask people to stop if you are bothered, and if you can't resolve an issue, contact staff. If you are being a problem, it will be apparent and you'll be asked to leave https://indieweb.org/CoC

you do all know that "free speech" in the article is strictly US only? There are certain elements banned in Europe, due to severe mistakes made in history.
#
petermolnar
and those laws overwrite both users and tech exec ideas
#
[KevinMarks]
That was part of the point of my note on twitter before http://www.kevinmarks.com/twitternazifilter.html

just noticed that bridgy hasn’t been sending tantek spam @t mentions from twitter for a while now: https://brid.gy/twitter/t
#
[snarfed]
…even though they’re definitely still happening: https://twitter.com/search?q=%40t&src=typed_query&f=live
#
[snarfed]
bridgy is still searching for them, and i don’t remember a change to filter them out. huh.
#
KartikPrabhu
maybe bridgy has achieved sentience!
#
[snarfed]
knew i forgot to cover something in unit tests
#
sknebel
how do you write a test to ensure the system is *not* sentient? I guess it works as long as it doesn't get clever enough to read and understand the test code in one go

snarfed - I keep meaning to raise an issue for Bridgy - do we need URLs (i.e. Twitter handles) to be case sensitive? Means https://brid.gy/twitter/JamieTanna works but https://brid.gy/twitter/jamietanna doesn't
[tantek] joined the channel; nickodd left the channel
#
[tantek]
URLs are case sensitive in the path (not the domain) by spec definition, so implementations must treat them that way (unless you’re asking for domain-specific case-folding hacks)

Over the last couple of days I wrote a detailed introduction to setting up a static site in AWS: https://raphaelluckom.com/posts/practitioner_journey.html. My wife test-drove the instructions and got a tiny page working with a little help. I made some modifications based on her feedback. I wanted to post here in case anyone else is curious about it; if anyone wants to give it a shot I'll be happy to answer questions in #indieweb-dev.

tantek i think jamietanna meant, silo usernames are generally sensitive, so it would be better Bridgy UX to do that for usernames in its URLs too
#
[snarfed]
also there’s an uglier side to this that’s also still unsolved: https://github.com/snarfed/bridgy/issues/884
#
Loqi
[snarfed] #884 usernames should be case insensitive
#
[tantek]
Hmm maybe a general approach to usernames would be less hacky, assuming all the silos supported by Bridgy have case insensitive usernames
#
[snarfed]
sure, either way. first though i need to merge the existing dupe accounts 😢
#
[tantek]
Might be useful for de-duping in general even outside of Bridgy
#

Makes sense, thanks snarfed and tantek!

It looks like we don't have a page for "pen pal" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "pen pal is ____", a sentence describing the term)
