I love the quote "We have all been trained to behave like tiny, performative corporations when it comes to presenting ourselves in digital space"

[capjamesg] I've got a small publishing imprint for a variety of physical and e-book formats if you want to chat about converting a site into physical form. From your cover it looks like you've got a reasonable start though if you go the self-publishing route.
#
[chrisaldrich]
[tw2113_Slack_] she published it last year, but it's been significantly updated.
#
[chrisaldrich]
What is updated?
#
Loqi
An updated is a post that has been edited by the author https://indieweb.org/updated
#
jjuran
"This site runs best with JavaScript enabled."
#
Loqi
[chrisaldrich] jjuran: it looks like this conversation is getting pretty technical (Microformats, JavaScript), can you take it to #indieweb-dev?
#
[chrisaldrich]
wishes Maggie's site had a feed for updated posts....
#
jjuran
I see messages like that one all the time, but usually on pages that display the body text anyway.
#
[chrisaldrich]
Loqi, I said "e-book formats" not "microformats". πŸ˜‰

steps on the e-book
#
[chrisaldrich]
Loqi is old school and apparently prefers books of the dead tree variety.
#
[tw2113_Slack_]
maybe loqi is just short and uses books to reach high shelves
#
[tw2113_Slack_]
if he just used "javascript the bad parts" he'd have a stepstool with just 1 book
#
[chrisaldrich]
How's IndieWebbing all the books going [tw2113_Slack_]?
#
[tw2113_Slack_]
steady though i'm sure my pace is slower than previous years for actually reading
#
[tw2113_Slack_]
a weekend or two ago I managed to work out what I hope to be accurate "you're on track for this challenge" calculations
#
[tw2113_Slack_]
apparently i'm now 2 behind schedule https://apiratelifefor.me/book-challenge/2021-challenge/

What is a challenge?
#
Loqi
challenge is an event-like post which serves as a (typically open) invitation for people to post achievements towards some goal, like running a total distance, or posting photos at some frequency (every day), supported by silos like Strava and micro.blog https://indieweb.org/challenge
#
[chrisaldrich]
What?! No book related challenges documented?
#
[chrisaldrich]
I'm a bit jealous. Do you have a checklist of Goodreads/LibraryThing-esque features that you're slowly implementing?
#
[tw2113_Slack_]
i think i have most of what i want. all the meta data i care about, now the challenge status, any time i update a book status it gets tweeted
#
[chrisaldrich]
I ought to be reading right now, but I'm checking out some of the beta highlight/annotation functionality in Calibre to see how easy (or not) it may be to move highlights out of my books and into my website from there.

i realize it's something that comes with a house and not an apartment, but having a proper study would be cool
#
[chrisaldrich]
You're not apartmenting properly then. 😁
#
[tw2113_Slack_]
well, budget and a brother for a roommate kind of makes it difficult
#
[tw2113_Slack_]
if i were rich i could get a 2bed on my own and make the smaller one the study

I'm not sure if this one is for sale if you want to move to Baltimore for your IndieWeb book-related dreams: https://bookhaven.stanford.edu/2020/07/a-johns-hopkins-landmark-on-the-block-dick-mackseys-magnificent-home-for-sale/
