[fluffy] in particular there's some folks prototyping things using Godot Engine, and Godot doesn't have nearly the engine lock-in that Unity does. It's all based on open standards to begin with, like it uses glTF for its assets and WebRTC for its networking stack. So it's already a big head start on exactly what I was describing.
