#Loqifriendly reminder [tantek], can you move the tech talk (Microformats, federated) to #indieweb-dev to keep this channel more inclusive and inviting?
#Loqi[preview] [Tantek Çelik] 10 years ago today the first #federated #IndieWeb comment thread was published and collected peer-to-peer IndieWeb replies across websites without any intermediary, silo or otherwise¹.

#IWDiscordRelay<Baudouin#1828> hello indieweb ! Bonjour de Bruxelles ! just joined and already have a question : is the indieweb 100% english or are there indieweb entities in french par exemple ?
#bkilHi. Interesting that I had the same question. The community seems to be mostly exclusive to the USA. You could probably find one who follows their lead around the world
#JaeItIts[m]<IWDiscordRelay> "<Baudouin#1828> hello indieweb..." <- Maybe around the CHATONS? it’s not exactly it but shares some goals
#IWDiscordRelay<capjamesg#4492> bkil The community is based all around the world!
#IWDiscordRelay<capjamesg#4492> We have held — and plan to hold more — meetups in Germany and hopefully the UK.
#IWDiscordRelay<capjamesg#4492> I’m in Scotland 🙂
#bkilIt would be interesting to create a similar movement within the EU as well, though.
#capjamesgWe're more powerful when we all work together :)
#capjamesgWe have previously held events in Oxford, Utrecht, Brighton, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, and other areas, but events are contingent upon someone standing up with the time to take on responsibilities to organize.

#[chrisbergr]bkil What do you mean, "a similar movement within the EU"? I don't see the point of it. You can organize yourself in local HWCs. We are connected by ideas, websites and the WWW. That goes beyond borders. Of course, a common language is essential....
#Loqicities are a good place to organize and host IndieWebCamps and Homebrew Website Club meetups; see the lists of cities below https://indieweb.org/cities
#[tantek]^ more European cities have held IndieWebCamps than US cities
#[tantek]Anyway, camp, cities, languages on the wiki, movement building are all better suited for #indieweb-meta
#bkilYou made me curious, so I ran some stats on the wiki table. 50% are from the US and 20% are from the EU. Note that I feel a disparity between the table and the chat in real life - I only see a very few talking here and those are from skewed demographics.
#[tantek]^ still more appropriate for #indieweb-meta
#Loqi[preview] [˗ˏˋ wakest ˎˊ˗] [Mike McCue (@mike), the CEO of Flipboard, echoes the sentiment: “I was there in the early days of the web, and this whole thing with ActivityPub is as big a deal as HTML was back then. This is the single biggest opportunity I’ve seen for the web...

#[tantek]I'm curious if anyone come here "from Mastodon" recently, and if so, what your impression has been, what you're looking to learn or get from this community, or if you’ve been inspired to IndieWebify your own web presence
#[tantek]E.g. I got this reply, and I keep forgetting that folks on Mastodon in general may be assuming that Mastodon's limitations are inherently part of the "fediverse" when they're not: https://union.place/@Frankc1450/110228788126722907
#Loqi[preview] [Frankc1450] @tantek.com cool stuff! But how do you make such a long post?
#shreyanjain[m][tantek]: more or less, yeah! for now I'm just looking around but it *has* gotten me to start indiewebifying my wordpress site
#[tantek]welcome CourtneyR_Dev! First I'm hearing about it and unfortunately I'm already booked for W3C Governance Week that week
#[tantek]How would you compare/contrast OSSummit and O'Reilly's longrunning OSCON, or the more grassroots OSBridge conferences of the past? (besides being in Vancouver instead of Portland, both great cities)
#[tantek]CourtneyR_Dev do you have a personal site?
