Ugh, now that my twitter API access is gone, I have zero motivation to post anything there, reply to anything, or favorite anything, because I can't keep a copy of it on my website ๐Ÿ˜ž
#
aaronpk
Twitter is basically as dead to me as Facebook now
#
[tantek]
[aaronpk] I'm very close to that but not quite. With FB, I stopped posting as soon as they dropped API support and broke Bridgy. It was never a place I cared much about anyway.
#
Loqi
hey aaronpk, [tantek]: it seems like this conversation is more appropriate for #indieweb-dev (API)
#
[tantek]
With Twitter, I've resorted to occasionally (once a month?) manually POSSEing to a tweet.
#
aaronpk
Guess I could have rephrased that to use a more user friendly term for API
#
aaronpk
yeah I will probably manually POSSE the occasional tweet still, but it's really killed my interest in using the app at all
#
[tantek]
yeah the app is pretty dead to me. occasionally I'll get a DM

So I posted this as a bookmark but with a note. So because of the bookmark, when I syndicated it via bridgy-fed it didn't appear on mastodon. Am I thinking of bookmarks wrong?

There have been a few times where I've felt like I want most of a post kind hidden (like bookmarks or replies) but sometimes want them more visible.
#
[snarfed]
I've really appreciated having visibility tags on my site that let me control whether a given post shows up on the front page, in feeds, in search, and in archives
#
[snarfed]
I have defaults for each post type, eg replies and likes and reposts aren't on the front page, but I can override them per post
#
[snarfed]
I think aaronpk is similar
#
[aciccarello]
I've experimented with that a bit
#
[aciccarello]
I actually set that flag for this post
#
[aciccarello]
I have options to exclude from sitemap (noindex), main feed, and all (completely unlisted)
#
[aciccarello]
Phew, finally hit publish on the massive blog post that's been holding me up from working on my website ๐Ÿ˜…

People lamenting the death of Google Reader as if it was the cause of RSS dying or whatever are missing the point that it's a strong criticism of monoculture software/services.
#
[tantek]
whoa: "app went officially offline on July 1st of that year."
#
aaronpk
RIP twitter

24 hours until 10th anniversary of [[Google Reader]] being shutdown.

especially amusing since didn't Elon make a big deal about showing live tweets on the http://twitter.com home page instead of a login screen just a few months ago?

hey [tantek], that's a lot of dev jargon! RSS... can you move to #indieweb-dev?
#

what is IndieMon?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "IndieMon" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "IndieMon is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
aaronpk
just in time for the newsletter
#
[tantek]
I mean, redirects don't show up

capjamesg, since you were thinking about indexes and I was thinking about appearances, it dawned on me that they are sort of inverses
#
[tantek]
an index is in the back of a book and lists page numbers where something appears in the book
#
[tantek]
an appearances (page) lists books and the page numbers where something appears.
