Presentation of that thread on Mastodon is annoying AF. A tootstorm with "Read More" eliding every few paragraphs is absolute crap UX. WTAF
#
[tantek]
That should be a blog post not a tootstorm--
#
Loqi
tootstorm has -1 karma over the last year

ok, I added "What happens when a social network site (SNS) grows to overlap multiple publics: (tootstorm) https://universeodon.com/@siderea/111478703259005044" to the "See Also" section of /publics https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=90833&oldid=84837

yeah I’m really sad to see that the tweetstorm/“Thread. 🧵⬇️1/n” format has survived the migration from Xitter to the fediverse :(
#
[KevinMarks]
I'm used to reading them in phanpy.social which shows threads a lot better

The default browser view you get by clicking the permalink sucks
#
[0x3b0b]
Huh. I didn't get any "read more." Once I got past the js;dr, it was just a straight (and narrow) read. I'd even say better than a lot of tootstorms/tweetstorms I've seen because most of the breaks were actually between chunks of more or less logical thought (places I might have expected a wider paragraph break in a blog post) and what few comment-replies there seem to have been by the time I loaded it are all at the end.
#
[0x3b0b]
Not necessarily asserting that doesn't suck, but I wonder why I didn't get "read more"s.
#
gRegor
I don't see "read more" either, huh. Do you mean the 🧵 emoji at the end?
#
[jacky]
someone is going to bring threadunroller to fedi at this rate
#
[aciccarello]2
Should really push mastodon to support articles as an accepted format.
#
gRegor
I thought the official apps limited to 500 characters per post but some in that link appear to go over that. I know via Bridgy Fed it can be longer, so it's just an artificial limit by the apps
#
[jacky]
I'd imagine that limit is pushed down by the instance in one's profile (if you did a poke at their AS2)
#
[aciccarello]2
I think it says "See more" if it's long
#
[aciccarello]2
But Bridgy Feds articles get shown as links with no body text by Mastodon
#
[aciccarello]2
Seems like an opportunity for better interop

_looks at [capjamesg] and the W3C social group_

Not that mastodon devs necessarily would listen
#
gRegor
Might be getting into dev, but I thought that was by BF choice to only send through the name and url if it was an article

Ahh, yeah it looks like under 400px it does that. Yuck.
#
gRegor
It jumps you to the permalink for that post instead of expanding it inline, too.

Ah, that may be why I'm not seeing it, as my Android phone is 486px wide with my default settings

Happy thought of the day... going on vacation to an Indiewebcamp... what new travel themed feature can I build or refine for my site?

GWG, do you have the IndyWeb feature yet?
#
[tantek]
what is IndyWeb
#
Loqi
Indy web is a spider web encountered by the character Indiana Jones (AKA Indy), the web of Indiana Jones fan sites which link to each other, personal site features that make use of aesthetics from the Indiana Jones movies, or a misspelling of IndieWeb https://indieweb.org/IndyWeb
#
[tantek]
ah, I can re-order that dfn by real world examples

I'm not sure I'm going to try that one, but I may look to tweak some maps
#
[tantek]
what is IndyWeb?
#
Loqi
Indy web is usually a misspelling of IndieWeb, but may refer to personal site features that make use of aesthetics from the Indiana Jones (AKA Indy) movies such as map animations, or a web of Indiana Jones fan sites which link to each other, or unlikely to mean a spider web encountered by Indy in one of the movies https://indieweb.org/IndyWeb
#
GWG
I'm 100% static maps.. maybe dynamic ones
#
[tantek]
sounds perfect for progressive enhancement with such animation
