[jacky]
wow more engagement on bsky than from fedi on that post
#
[tantek]
lol the cowboy / wild west is appropriate for the frontiers of federation
#
[snarfed]
syndication/backfeed is complicated, fediverse is currently backfeeding elsewhere, not to that post
#
[snarfed]
kind of deliberate for this one specifically

#
[snarfed]
eh only half deliberate. I hand crafted the fediverse post, so it's technically a different post than the blog post

[preview] [snarfed] #667 Web: consider adopting Bridgy classic's custom text mf2 property?
#
gRegor
I've published like that once or twice to Mastodon. I'd be in favor of the custom property route.

As a microblogpub user instead, I haven't ever really thought that much about some of the implications of bridgy fed (and to a lesser extent possibly bridgy) as seen from the perspective of the kind of Fediverse user that rallies indignantly against anything they perceive as "scraping the fediverse" or anything that effectively presents proxy accounts for people who didn't explicitly opt in. I did recently have some vague...more wondering than...
#
[0x3b0b]
... questions, I guess...about how BF interacts with the Fediverse expectations regarding visibility and publishing, because something related came up, but that's more a -dev conversation and not directly related to what I'm actually curious about, which is...would you rate the fed reaction so far as more or less than 50% hostile?
#
[snarfed]
less, but still some. maybe 20%
#
[tantek]
[snarfed] I think the summary property already fits the role of plain text fallback however that's getting into #indieweb-dev territory so should probably go there
#
[jacky]
tbh I think a 101 on how this works would be good for a lot of folks
#
[tantek]
which this?
#
[jacky]
and would serve as a good auto-reply for stuff
#
[jacky]
this = federation
#
Loqi
friendly reminder [0x3b0b], [jacky], would you mind moving this conversation (scraping, federation) to #indieweb-dev? thanks!
#
[jacky]
