This is about blogging / writing, so let's save that for HWC on Wednesday if there is interest.

I'm late but I agree on how the RSS reader kinda robs you of the original site design, I've been thinking about that lately

I like narrating the list of other events at the end of an event.

Would love to write more stuff on my website but I'm still stuck at the part where I put things on my website 😕
#
capjamesg[d]
We discussed that today. The sentiment was to start writing, then figure out where to put things later.
#
[mattl]
To me, personally, that would be a waste of my time. If I'm going to write something, it has to go somewhere.
#
gRegor
Was today's HWC for writing time, or discussing writing? Or both? :)
#
capjamesg[d]
It was for discussing writing!
#

[Joe_Crawford] did a bit of writing on the call: https://artlung.com/blog/2024/10/08/raw-text-to-speech/

Have never really tried virtual body doubling for writing. I know in ye olde days of in person HWCs the writing hour was helpful for me.

"writing" is being very generous to me there. though this was some writing in anticipation of the meeting. https://artlung.com/blog/2024/09/23/talking-about-writing/

A writer speaks, then the robot transcribes it. :)
#

Is one not then an orator?
#

(The elocution in that sentence is so poor 😂 😭 )

I was inspired by HWC this evening to record an audio note: https://jamesg.blog/2024/10/08/monologue-on-modality/
#
[mattl]
nice, it would be nice to have a text transcript. i'm surprised macOS doesn't just give me one tbh

I feel like this is enough of a theme or occurrence among some number of IndieWeb designs that it may be worth its own page
#
[tantek]
I've certainly styled my blog that way in the past, and jwz has a similar look too
#
[tantek]
does that style have a canonical name?
#
nemonical
well, the wordpress template i've used is called RetroGeek
#
[tantek]
saw that!
#
[tantek]
Wikipedia refers to the original devices / screens as "*Green screen* [display(s)]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monochrome_monitor
#
[tantek]
looks like "Terminal Green" pretty much specifically nearly only means this styling: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=%22Terminal+Green%22
#
[tantek]
whereas RetroGeek shows literally no sign of the styling: https://www.google.com/search?q=RetroGeek&client=firefox-b-1-d (on page 1 of normal results). Even clicking through to image results shows only the WordPress theme as a reference to that styling, no one else (other than the WP theme) uses "RetroGeek" to refer to that green screen display effect
#
[tantek]
so I'm going with the web/internet has decided "Terminal Green" is the name of this effect

For me green screen is how things looked on the Amstrad GT64 monitor. When I was a kid green screen terminals were how computers looked for the most part.
