https://almanac.httparchive.org/en/2024/ The Web Almanac has been released. This is a first class resource of information about the web and many topics about it. I got some insight into the process of how this is created and its honestly a labor of love by a bunch of insanely savvy web people.

I'm thinking about a round-up for my blog over the year. This is a concept of a quantitative analysis:

does this ignore words like a and the

Year in Review is a feature on some silos (like Facebook) as well as being a special kind of article on some IndieWeb sites that summarizes important aspects of the past year, sometimes on specific topics like books read https://indieweb.org/wrapped

[snarfed] while not an outright silo quit, number of blocks you need on a system seems indicative of the health (or lack there of) of a system, so occasionally reporting mine as a datapoint

that looks really nice, [capjamesg] — will you publish the code (or logic) behind it? the steps seem straightforward, but I wonder if I'm missing any step between parsing blog text -> possibly homogeneization of words? -> statistical analysis

paotsaq, publishing code and parsing are likely better discussed in #indieweb-dev

This article has some indieweb-relevance IMO, and trying to figure out how to best cite it on the wiki: https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/11/09/social-media-traditional-news-elections-00188548 — in particular I believe "digital websites" includes IndieWeb sites, in contrast to "social media"

not sure if this is the right chan, but are there any fonts like Super Pixel (https://www.dafont.com/super-pixel.font) that are open source? i really like it but i would prefer to have everything on my site be as open as possible

#
[tantek]
zayd, maybe? maybe also #indieweb-dev related. Font choices are kinda borderline since it's something folks sometimes customize in themes or UI without any explicit development

Fair. I have a fondness for that silkscreen font from making those 80x15 web buttons back in the day :)

gRegor: yeah, it looks better for buttons and such rather than headers, which is what i'm looking for a font for

Is there a font search that can be done which searches by license? That must be a thing. Also, funny you mention silkscreen, I had it in my mind to create a header using Silkscreen ever since I learned about `image-rendering: pixelated` https://artlung.com has been updated.
#
gRegor
Nice!
#
gRegor
I used it at one point to make a pixelated "gregorlove 2600" logo on my site, a nod to Atari 2600. Unfortunately can't find backups of the graphics or on Internet Archive :/

has anyone here sent a CCPA right to be forgotten (deletion request) to a silo, e.g. as part of a silo-quit and can you share what happened if you are comfortable doing so?
#
gRegor
Making an archive of my past site designs is something always on my mind, even if it's just screenshots. Even better if they're browsable.

Yeah. I like aaronpk's approach of YYYY. subdomains like 2008.aaronpk (I made that up)

if anyone does send CCPA deletion requests to silos they have quit, please add to: https://indieweb.org/CCPA#IndieWeb_examples

it's on my todo list to flatten these to static HTML tho
#
[aciccarello]
I already have a static site so theoretically it should be easy to generate. But I'd like to make some tweaks like adding a alert at the top and linking to the canonical version.
#
aaronpk
not a bad idea

i guess a weirder way to do it: https://example.com:2008
