[artlung] Carrvo I feel the need to say that "essentially the same" is collapsing to nothing incredible differences in the nature of things to an extent that renders your sentence completely false.

carrvo I get that all of those have different motivations, but from a security perspective their control over the content is the same.

[artlung] I would also challenge you to look for the literature on mass media and public health. There are positive uses of censorship with measurable public health results. There’s a scientific reason for fiction depicting suicide to include disclaimers and information about resources to people.

carrvo Ironically I view "moderation" *as* "positive censorship" (since "censorship" typically comes with negative connotations). I think that it is too bad that the article only focused on the negatives.
