CSS Naked Day, to get the order correct
#
Loqi
friendly reminder [tw2113], would you mind moving this more technical conversation (CSS) to #indieweb-dev? thanks!
#
[tw2113]
what is CSS Naked Day
#
Loqi
CSS Naked Day is an event on April 9th of each year where participants delete or disable the CSS on their website, to show their content in its raw form https://indieweb.org/CSS_Naked_Day

can i somehow add terminus font to my website?
#
xue
how would you do that? i'm new to writing websites

xue: you'll want to host the font (or find somewhere it's already available, and then load them via @font-face https://stackoverflow.com/a/107951. LMK if any of this is jibberish, happy to elaborate

I am thinking of allowing other people to write posts on my blog for quite some time. Is this "allowed" by the IndieWeb principles? For example I've already found out that indieauth allows subpaths to find the rel=me attributes. So removing rel=me links from the base layout and only add them to the specific posts and maybe a author focused page should be enough?

rosipov: terminus is a bitmap font and from what i've gathered, those can't be used in webistes

Zegnat
perryflynn: the IndieWeb principles allow you to decide about your website, so multi author blogs fit just as well! Just that the root domain might not be a personal identity then, which is fine
#
doesnm
can identity be a subpath? like https://demo.yarn.social/user/doesnm
#
Zegnat
Who is Zegnat?
#
Loqi
Martijn van der Ven is a long-time web tinkerer living in Sweden (CEST or Europe/Stockholm timezone). Pronouns: he or they. https://vanderven.se/martijn/ https://indieweb.org/User:Vanderven.se/martijn/
#
Zegnat
Yes 👆
#
doesnm
i mean multiplie identities on one domain. Like... tilde?
barnaby joined the channel
#
Zegnat
Yes. I am /martijn on my family domain, and there could be many other users on other paths
#
xue
Why does html ignores '\r' symbol? In any other scenario, i am able to override the text and w3schools list it as allowed ascii control character
#
xue
am i doing something wrong with "
" notation or is html standard broken
#
Zegnat
xue: that might be more a question for #indieweb-dev :)
#
xue
k
#
perryflynn
uuuh I like the idea to have tilde sites for each user. nice idea!
#
perryflynn
thanks Zegnat & doesnm
#
Zegnat
The only thing to know as a someone with a path identity is that you of course have a little less ownership of your identity than when you control the whole domain. Someone can take it away from you
#
doesnm
it's tradeoff
#
perryflynn
yep. but since adding content is only possible via pull request and I can just ensure that rel=me links are only at specific posts and specific user pages, it should be fine. will think more about that.
#
doesnm
perryflynn: huh? it's possible to host chrooted ftp
#
perryflynn
doesnm: sure, but I only allow/want it via pull request + CI pipeline.
#
perryflynn
the build process of serverles.industries became quite complex in the last few years. I even wrote custom jekyll plugins.
#
Loqi
friendly reminder perryflynn, we try to keep jargon (CI , Jekyll) out of this channel to make it more inviting to newcomers, can you move this to #indieweb-dev?

what "political social media"?
#
[tantek]
also never heard GitHub called "developer social media" before lol
#
xue
[tantek]: twitter, also thats what github is in my opinion, slick and sexy social media that centralizes a lot of version control, great investment on microsofts side btw
#
[tantek]
twitter has not been supported for web sign-in for quite some time, I think since they broke the sign-in with Twitter APIs after the acquisition
#
Loqi
friendly reminder xue, [tantek], would you mind moving this more technical conversation (version control, APIs) to #indieweb-dev? thanks!
#
[tantek]
heh yeah will try to keep it user level
#
xue
Loqi: kkk
#
[tantek]
xue, your criticisms are fair
#
xue
whats greatest about web is decentralisation imo, like forums and blogs and chatrooms used to have their specific culture, that's why role of lurker used to exists. Now, when everyone is in one place it's either one culture's domination or constant war of what is and what isn't appropriate. Or both. And i am tired of that
#
[tantek]
indeed, it's not clear the diversity of human cultures and societies scales to a single global townhall

What is life happens
#
Loqi
life happens is a summary expression of numerous things that people experience in their actual physical lives that suddenly take higher priority than nearly anything else (like participation in volunteer-based communities), and the IndieWeb community is here to acknowledge, accept, and be supportive of community members experiencing this https://indieweb.org/life_happens
