flyntwickHi, everyone. I'm pretty new to the #indieweb movement, but have been a developer for more than a decade. I'm grateful that communities like this exist.
hashtag_the_first(I understand nothing is legal advice, y'all are not lawyers, etc. - I am just curious how the discussion and common practice has evolved since 2018)
hashtag_the_firstWhat's the current consensus on GDPR and webmentions for a site and its activities that might in the future have some commercial activity such as donations, subscriptions or affiliate links? (EU-based natural person, EU-based hosting company)

jeremyI imagine if your site became commercial you would need to be transparent about what data you collect, keep collection minimal, and offer a way for people to opt out. The next question is what constitutes a commercial site?

[ggirelli]Oh, you are indeed right. Gdpr does not apply to "processing of personal data performed by a natural person in the course of a purely personal or household activity"
hashtag_the_firstThis does seem to be one of the key questions. I can see arguments where: I am not specifically using their data to target my services at the **individuals** specifically (maybe only collecting large metrics to target demographics) - though that argument probably wouldn't hold water.
hashtag_the_firstThe other question is of how feasible it even is to fulfill the "right-to-be-forgotten" in the case that someone does reach out to have a comment removed. Am I digging into phpmyadmin and editing the database or whatever it is that is storing the user and all their fediverse interactions?

[tantek]is anyone using genAI for featured images for posts? curious if anyone does, and if so, do such vibe generated images come with the alt text used for the prompt?
