Hi, all. I'm Stillforge & relatively new to the indieweb scene. I've been a professional developer for about 10 years with a total of 20+ years of overall experience. I'm mostly here to meet people, support the indieweb & help where I can. I'm excited to get to know everyone!

As an actual study, and something that seems harmful to the independent web, this seems worthy of sharing here (i.e. not just a usual bigco/tech / AI / LLM rant) https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2025/07/22/google-users-are-less-likely-to-click-on-links-when-an-ai-summary-appears-in-the-results/

ai summaries are usually irrelevant
#
[tantek]
It would be easier if it were that simple
#
[tantek]
I have found that unfortunately they seem to be roughly ok for at least half the time, which then adds to a temptation to read/use them more

the study summary ^ is worth reading. the summaries are using/citing Wikipedia more than "normal" search results, and I believe those are the ones that seem quite accurate
