Hello?
#
Vulpes
this is a chat for website development, right?
#
aaronpk
not exactly
#
aaronpk
what is indieweb?
#
Loqi
The IndieWeb is a community of independent and personal websites based on the principles of: owning your domain and using it as your primary online identity, publishing on your own site first (optionally elsewhere), and owning your content https://indieweb.org/indieweb
#
aaronpk
"development" is only one part of it
#
Vulpes
huh, ok
#
[mattl]
There’s #indieweb-dev for development stuff
#
aaronpk
huh, goo.gl is going away next month
#
aaronpk
i just searched my website for "goo.gl" and found a few posts that include links to it
#
aaronpk
interestingly, (and probably very intentionally) the only links I used goo.gl in were for google-run websites. maps, google street view, flight search, google maps directions
#
aaronpk
so i guess time to go update all those links
#
aaronpk
the oldest link is to a google street view photo that i posted in 2012
#
[mattl]
those aren’t going away, only ones made to external sites i think?
#
aaronpk
well that's an important distinction

I thought all goo. gl shortlinks were going to stop redirecting according to their announcement (citation in article)

[edit] I've sent an RSVP to https://events.indieweb.org/2022/02/personal-libraries-pop-up-session-Wax8N17zQuY0 through micropublish.net. My page doesn't have the `p-rsvp` markup class, but it's still recognized as a "Maybe". I'm curious how/why. Is this handled by the webmention receiver? Must be, since I can't figure out how else.

jacky
[edit] [aciccarello]: if you want a micropub server to use and are open to using AWS, there's https://github.com/barryf/vibrancy/
#
Loqi
[metbril], jacky: can you move the tech talk (markup, AWS, Micropub) to #indieweb-dev to keep this channel more inclusive and inviting?

Their blog post about goo.gl link shortener is confusing since they use the wildcard in this sentence "Any developers using links built with the Google URL Shortener in the form https://goo.gl/* ..." but the last sentence of that section says "Note that goo.gl links generated via Google apps (such as Maps sharing) will continue to function.
#
gRegor
So the key in the first sentence is "Google URL Shortener", despite the misleading asterisk in that URL pattern.
#
gRegor
It does look like maps share links are now `maps.app.goo.gl/*`
#
gRegor
Confirmed that a maps link I have from 10 years ago in the format goo.gl/maps/* works and no warning about being deprecated
#
gRegor
Guess I'll set a reminder to check that again after August 25 :)
