rossabaker I walked the dogs early to be situated for the Pacific meeting, but it was Eastern. Whoopsies!

rossabaker I hope so. I have not fallen off the face of the earth. Merely into the face of a five-week training.

rossabaker Hopefully you mean the tardy situation and not the five-week training!

thegoldenbagel Been seeing some of these digital gardens and looking into setting one up! I'm a photographer but I want to have it contain lots of different areas of my life

#
paperbritt I would love to see a more visual version of a digital garden, most of the ones I've encountered so far are very text based.

thegoldenbagel Yeah! I used to have a website but I don't like how much square space costs and it lined kinda meh. I like the obsidian publish vibe but I don't know how it handles photos, so I'd probably end up self hosting or creating some amalgamation of interacting parts because nothing can ever be simple with me

#
thegoldenbagel Oh it limits to 4GB per site that's not bad, it's not like I'd be needing to put full resolution stuff there anyways. I might just do it through obsidian publish then.

#
thegoldenbagel Not to speak for them but I think I might know where they're coming from, as a VERY broad stroke, I feel like obsidian tends to attract the type of people who are mainly into productivity, ai, techie stuff etc., so pretty much every obsidian one I've found is mostly just text (which there's nothing wrong with)
#
thegoldenbagel I'm thinking of doing a similar thing but just have a section that's photography related. I've also seen some websites on neocities that I love the vibe of so I'm trying to see if there's a good intersecting point between the two ideas

[tantek] Worth IndieNewsing IMO: https://underlap.org/visitor-stats-and-the-point-of-blogging/
#
Loqi metrics is in the context of the IndieWeb a type of post or a summary page that documents measurements of a personal activity such as exercise, travel, food, or acquisitions https://indieweb.org/metrics

Loqi analytics is the collection, analysis and reporting of a websites traffic https://indieweb.org/analytics

Loqi ok, I added "Why (and Why not) 2025-08-24 [https://underlap.org/visitor-stats-and-the-point-of-blogging/ Visitor stats and the point of blogging]" to the "See Also" section of /website-analytics https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=103983&oldid=90901

[Trevor_Morris] @thegoldenbagel what is your definition of a “digital garden”. I see it as a website you maintain and tinker with. That can be a blog or photos. Or both. In fact, I combine them both in my “photos journal” — https://www.trovster.com/photos

#
thegoldenbagel That's what I'd consider it to @trevor_morris, and I'll check yours out! I've just noticed that a lot of the ones I've seen specifically using Obsidian Publish tend to be mostly text based, but to be fair I haven't seen a ton yet so 🤷♂️
#
thegoldenbagel Exactly, and it's where I came across the concept of digital gardens so I've got quite a bit of selection bias 😂
#
Loqi 🌱🪴 A digital garden is a particular practice of creating & growing an online and public IndieWeb presence that focuses more on topics & relationships than a timeline like blogs, has content of different levels of development, is imperfect and often a playground for experimentation, learning, revising, iteration, and growth for diverse content, perhaps interlinked with other digital gardens https://indieweb.org/digital_garden

paperbritt capjamesg[d]: thegoldenbagel[d] yeah pretty much, I love the way obsidian canvas works, the ability to make a dense clue board style page of interlinked images somewhere between are.na and obsidian notes and a timeline would be delightful. Honestly I use wordpress and I hate the way it handles images too, the media library is just a place to dump photos and hope you can find them again one day.
#
thegoldenbagel paperbritt[d]: Ahhh I see, I'm not sure how a gallery would work in obsidian though 🤔
#
paperbritt You can use dataview and now probably bases to make like a card catalog like view but the canvas is really what I want to explore.
#
thegoldenbagel Hmm canvas would be pretty sick as a gallery, do you know if it works exactly the same in publish as it does in app?
#
petermolnar out of curiosity, is anyone protecting their photos/images on their site with something like https://embracethered.com/blog/posts/2020/husky-ai-image-rescaling-attacks/ ?
#
paperbritt thegoldenbagel[d]: I've not seen any examples of canvas in the wild. Maybe they don't publish.
#
paperbritt [Trevor_Morris]: Nice photos.
#
thegoldenbagel Hmmm I'm gonna look into that cause a canvas gallery sounds really cool!
#
[Trevor_Morris] Thanks @paperbritt
#
thegoldenbagel paperbritt[d]: Not officially but through a plugin or third party thing yes, the official version is in the roadmap tho
barnaby joined the channel
#
paperbritt If it's in roadmap I suspect it'll appear on publish alongside bases as it's very similar transforming data stuff.
#
paperbritt No idea when that will be though.

glitzeor4444 [[Britt]] my digital garden has visual stuff in the form of visual notes and graphs if you click on the "flower" icons in my garden lol. Assuming that I haven't broken my site again (which I think i did lol) https://garden.patsitive.co.nz
#
glitzeor4444 But they're visual as in sketch notes or graphs, not photos (yet) anyway
#
glitzeor4444 What is Obsidian
#
glitzeor4444 [[TheGoldenBagel]] there are heaps of options to publish from Obsidian to Web! I do this on my garden site
#
Loqi Obsidian is a free, multi-platform application for writing and maintaining plain text notes (for longevity) as markdown files that you can publish to your personal-domain https://indieweb.org/Obsidian
#
glitzeor4444 Bagel if you go to the Obsidian wiki page, I updated a section to show some options for Obsidian to Web publishing, noting which are free or paid
#
glitzeor4444 Also Britt and Bagel, if you want to see visual notes in Obsidian, i highly recommend Zsolt's visual PKM 👌 not really photographs but definitely visual but still making use of the interconnectivity offered by Obsidian linking https://youtube.com/@visualpkm?si=p_v8cXxBLkELk0kS
#
glitzeor4444 Ahahaha thank you gRegor
#
glitzeor4444 I wonder how long my IndieWeb hyper fixation will last 🤔 🤣 I need to make sure I have systems in place to keep posting stuff and working on my website/s so I don't just randomly drop off the map
#
glitzeor4444 Wouldn't it be a community garden???? 🌿🌱🌾
#
thegoldenbagel glitzeor4444[d]: Ooo once I get home I'll check yours out!
#
thegoldenbagel glitzeor4444[d]: God same, I know how I am with this type of stuff so I'm trying to get as much done as quick as possible cause I think this'll be good for me
