[social]zachary.kai excellent choice! I have had the book for a while, but other books have bumped ahead of it. Many of my friends have read and use it as reference points. This is the nudge I need to get going with it.
null_biodunI am sorry for bumming your day. I just need to get this off my heart because the pain is overwhelming today. I am so tired and I feel like giving up. I have tried and tried, applying to so many job posts, but I get very few replies and mostly rejections with no interviews. I still keep applying and hoping I may get in. I write code, I am a fullstack developer doing both frontend and backend, and I have worked on and contributed
damianwalsh.null_biodun[d]: I wish I could offer up something more constructive and hopeful apart from saying: remember you are not alone, this is not a reflection on your skill and value as a person—instead it's all about the market.
damianwalsh.zachary_kai[d]: I've been meaning to read this for a while and have now added it to my list in the hope it'll stop me delaying further, so thanks for that reminder. FWIW, I picked up ideas reading Brian Eno's diary earlier this year. Some useful material about creativity and working practices woven among tales from a clearly very talented individual who has lived an extraordinary life. https://www.faber.co.uk/product/97805713746
damianwalsh.[John_Gorenfeld]: I wasn't aware of this book, thanks for bringing it to my attention. Quoting the publisher's summary: "Curious and playful, richly illustrated, full of ideas and life, it is an inspiring call to imagine a different future." Sounds just the ticket—I've added it to my reading list.
[John_Gorenfeld]I'm glad you're checking it out! It really surprised me. It's a deceptively simple and short book. But the ideas in it really stuck with me.
[John_Gorenfeld]↩️ I just want to say that as a freelancer with unreliable employment, it is so ridiculous how employment can make the difference between feeling like a brilliant engineering genius and like the opposite. I would second what damianwalsh said about how it's just this terrible economy and no reflection on you.
zachary.kaiSpeaking of! I just spun up my submission for day one. It was fun to make, going to see if I can do the entire month. https://lab.lunaseeker.com/ww/25day1.html
