[Al_Abut][tantek] a knolling-friendly trend was to take pics of a collection of items and tag them on an image map in Flickr. Worked great for overhead shots of things laid flat on the ground, but could also be used in other ways too, like this old one of my coworker’s desk on Flickr (the tags only work on desktop): https://www.flickr.com/photos/eston/4398780625/
paperbrittWeighing up the pros and cons of sharing my blog post to mastodon vs making my blog activitypub and allowing people to follow it on any activitypub (but most likely mastodon) kind of place.
paperbrittThe blog is on wordpress so both are reasonably easy plugins (thank you to everyone who did it the hard way to make the plugins work). I'm leaning towards sharing to mastodon because it involves the least changes but wonder what thoughts others have on it.
[KevinMarks]If you have a mastodon account you do use, and are likely to respond from, what you could do is set up the blog as a AP source and then reposting the blog post from your existing account.
paperbrittI already have a mastodon account which I see as my primary presence. Is there a benefit to reposting an AP sources as opposed to sharing the link to the blog? I guess mostly that people could follow on mastodon if they saw fit.
[KevinMarks]Depending on how the POSSE works, reposting the blog as AP can show it in full rather than summary+link, as the length limit is per instance (mastodon will add a "see more" break)
ax562In what language would it be the least time consuming to create a user login type thing for a website? Could I use sql? Ideally I would want to encrypt each users memory space.
[tantek]paperbritt, good questions! My summary is 1) direct content visibility like what [KevinMarks] said. Don't make the reader click more except to "read more". 2) consolidate comments/replies/likes in one place, the original post, rather than splintered
[lazcorp]ActivityPub has numerous "object" types, and the two relevant ones here are "note" and "article". Notes are meant for short-form social media content (like Mastodon). Articles are for "longer multi-paragraphed objects" according to the spec, so are probably better for blogposts (dependiong on your blogposts of course).
[lazcorp]Mastodon displays "Notes" in full (as they are what it was built for), but it chooses to display "Articles" with a title, summary, and link to read the whole thing. This is not your choice, but Mastodon's (other ActivityPub applications may/do display Articles in full). Notes also have very limited formatting, whereas Articles tend to allow a greater variety of HTML.
reillypascalThe last few Europe meetings have been listed as “cancelled” on https://events.indieweb.org/, and I don't see the US ones listed at all. Does anyone know the status of those?
