Hi! I was on this server awhile ago before I had to make a new Discord account and rejoin. That intro's buried by now, so to reintroduce: here's my personal site on the IndieWeb: https://insitze.com. It's about 3 years old, built on WordPress. I use it as a "home on the web" and abide by the POSSE principle for aggregating all my creative works as a musician and creative.

A question that led me back to this Discord server was what the boundaries are between the IndieWeb and Fediverse? I like the concept of both, and I could see where they might cross theoretically, but someone here might be able to toss some insight into how they intersect? And a follow-up, do you think the general trajectory of "Web3" is tending toward federation, or too hard too tell atm?

friendly reminder aboxsots, can you move the tech talk (federation, web3) to #indieweb-dev to keep this channel more inclusive and inviting?

Welcome, aboxsots!
#
gRegor
Note that we recommend against editing Discord messages, it resends the entire message to our chat logs

gRegor: Heard!

gRegor
Definitely overlap with fediverse and indieweb, several of us use aspects of both, and build bridges, etc.

What is Bridgy Fed?
#
Loqi
Bridgy Fed connects IndieWeb sites with the fediverse (eg Mastodon) and Bluesky, allowing users on those networks to follow your IndieWeb site, including receiving notifications, reading, and replying to your posts https://indieweb.org/Bridgy_Fed
#
gRegor
I use that for sharing certain posts to Mastodon, for example ^

[artlung]++ thanks for the Cybercultural words, photo (and Flickr link!) heads-up. I have now repaired the original photo post on my site to use a Flickr embed and link instead of the broken Instagram CDN embed, moving the Instagram photo link to be a syndication link.

Welcome, Solace! Do you have a personal website?
#
gRegor
Yes, this chat has a global community and is bridged across a few different chat platforms. Even if you don't see active chat in the moment, people will see it and reply eventually. We encourage asking the question or sharing the comment rather than saying hello and waiting for a reply. https://indieweb.org/no_hello

what is discovery
#
Loqi
Discovery is a variety of methods for finding content, websites, communities, or people to follow on the web including search, directories, recommendation engines, tags, or other serendipitous methods; there are also discovery-algorithms for developers https://indieweb.org/discovery
