This website has a game of chess you can play asynchronously with the site owner: https://eugodr.net/

hello
#
Xen
is this bridged to EG Discord?
#
[capjamesg]
IRC, Discord, Slack, and the web chat all show the same content.

And welcome!
#
Xen
I see. You are already totally borged here.

I've just seen [artlung]'s Movie Club post. Watched Endless Summer last night. Is there going to be an event like the last two months? It'll be a great one to discuss, especially from an ardent surfer. /cc [Al_Abut].
#
Xen
Assimilate me too. Made a site.
#
Xen
By the way yours is very cute
#
[capjamesg]
Thank you! If you are looking for more sites, https://blogroll.org is a fun place to explore!
#
[capjamesg]
There are plenty of indie web sites in there.
#
Xen
Thank you.
#
Xen
Is not it fascinating how one day that soft and cute site might also be your tombstone? I think that indieweb is in principle recontinuing the Egyptian tradition of presevation of "us" in our text form. It is bit grim to think of always being building one's tomb, but EG your site leaves an extraordinarily rich picture of you without needing thousands of slaves (I hope) to build. We live in great times, and our sites will live in the future regardless
#
Xen
of how great it's gonna be.
#
[capjamesg]
I was thinking about something similar recently in that websites are tiny pieces of our selves that we choose to share with people
#
[morgan]
and the bots, dont forget them 🤖 heh
#
[capjamesg]
And if you build a website, you have full control over everything from the typography to the layout to the way your works (pictures, words, sketches, whatever you publish).
#
[capjamesg]
Every detail is a little part of this thing that you made and says something.
#
[capjamesg]
Related to this, I think a lot about navigation bars. What you link to is what you want people to be more likely to explore.
#
Xen
The foodchain is now: LLM > TEXT > US.

What is EG? I dont know what that means
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "EG? I dont know what that means" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "EG? I dont know what that means is ____", a sentence describing the term)

Exampli gratia. Latin was WRITTENLIKETHIS originally.

EG is Exampli gratia. Latin was WRITTENLIKETHIS originally. SC EG means for example (out of many possible examples), IE EG is not IE.

james anyway you are right about the phenomenological site. I find it that the most impactful way to capture experiences is to use linking similarly to IF (interactive fiction). then one can experience many different stories, instead of all of them or a single story, on a site. I mean that for example "delayed branching" (a great IF technique) can be implemented with just clever enough URLs. Homestuck has bit similar use of URLs, though it is
#
Xen
infamously doing the opposite (the reader never has real choice about the story and the choices are mere illusions which becomes a running gag in the story).

snarfed: I have tendency to steal scholarly habits. The origin of that is from Abram Demsky, whose theory of embedded agency is among the greatest philosophical (novel) foundations devised in this millenium.
#
Xen
(I recommend this version though https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/p7x32SEt43ZMC9r7r/embedded-agents, much more accessible)

I like the idea of there being different pathways to explore a website. It is sort of like going to a museum. No two visits are the same.

I think wikipedia becomes a rabbit hole due to sheer size, but if one is not using EG LLMs to maintain links, then it might make sense to do the IF style. I think also that IF connects very nicely to the idea that the personal site maybe ideally would be an interpreter / REPL. Never worked that part out myself though (too much work). But it is maybe the interactivity. "Phenomenological buffer / take away" – take the experience you want away from it
#
Xen
There is no control what others do with the text anyway (how they read it). So it seems like a very good idea to "entertrain the thoughts of different experiences."

[artlung]
[Trevor_Morris] this month has been a bear for my household but not impossible to wrangle an event if not in calendar month but as a follow in April
#
Xen
(single person cannot really maintain linking without automation becomes the amount of link decisions grows faster than exponentially over the amount of nodes, this mathematical fact somehow is never mentioned in Obsidian.md / PKM marketing materials)
#
Xen
*because
#
Xen
artlung those blocks in your site are really cool, bit "brutalistic" / "concrete" aesthetic and to the direction I like very much. they are not (clearly) like "UI cards" in commercial sites but well thought out in organization.
#
[artlung]
Thanks Xen! Very kind to mention. I've been looking at my old front/splash pages and adapting them to 2026. I froze a version the other day as I intend to make more changes https://artlung.com/splashes/
#
[Trevor_Morris]
[artlung] I think the following month makes more sense anyhoo, probably the first week. Gives people a full month to watch that month's movie(s).

I would appreciate links to whatever this (web) chat runs on, in particular whatever is doing the day-stamped organization of channels. I originally tried to make something like that for my site (with XMPP) and might steal this.

@xen one way it is possible to maintain linking is via tags. If you take it up as a practice you then have a natural n to m linking that can then be mediated to connect the nodes. You need tagging to be low cognitive load for this to work though. Previously https://epeus.blogspot.com/2005/10/tags-and-cognitive-load.html
