drunken_jedi Morning everyone :). I’m totally new here and frankly feel a little lost and overwhelmed. I realised I’ve become so used to being served content that I’ve kind of lost the curiosity I had when I was younger to go find fun and weird little websites that make me smile. I’m excited to find some cool stuff and maybe even learn a few things along the way 😊.
#
[capjamesg] Welcome! You’re in the right place to learn more about personal websites 🙌
#
[capjamesg] Do you have a website set up already?
April joined the channel
#
[capjamesg] It looks like you are signed into the wiki with your domain name http://Aprilscable.neocities.org so all is good!
#
[capjamesg] Yes, that page is for you to write anything you want on!
#
April In remote participants- https://indieweb.org/2026/D%C3%BCsseldorf Did I do that right?
#
[capjamesg] Yes!
#
[capjamesg] No worries. Great work getting everything set up!
#
drunken_jedi [capjamesg]: No I don’t, I dabbled very briefly with HTML in my teens but nothing since and that was uh… a long time ago lol 😅.
#
drunken_jedi I saw on Neocities they do a course on it though so maybe I’ll do that. I already found some really fun and interesting little websites that sparked more joy in me than any number of soulless Reddit communities.
#
IWDiscord <drunken_jedi>
#
[capjamesg] Yes! Neocities has a great onboarding tutorial that walks through HTML if I remember.
#
[capjamesg] You might also like https://htmlforpeople.com
#
[capjamesg] And https://phpforpeople.com/ is you are interested in PHP too.
#
drunken_jedi Thanks 🩷 I’ll pretend I know what PHP means for now until I can read some more 🤭
#
[capjamesg] 😄
#
[capjamesg] Oops, yeah if we have any technical topics to discuss #indieweb-dev is the right place. My bad.
#
drunken_jedi Oh ok sorry, I was just finding my feet that’s all. I’ll move over.
#
[capjamesg] I can relate re: finding lots of fun websites to explore on the indie web.
#
[capjamesg] I can easily lose an hour just clicking through people’s websites 😂
#
drunken_jedi The few I looked at so far took me right back to the early 2000’s and it was amazing, some people are so talented and I wish I could unlock that kind of creativity in myself tbh.
#
[capjamesg] I have found making web pages to be a great way to exercise my creative muscles.
#
[capjamesg] Looking at others’ sites is really helpful in learning what is possible too.
#
drunken_jedi Yes definitely, it’s fun to look at something you know what created by someone for the sake of creating and making something for themselves, rather than just more content for a huge platform meant to generate clicks.
#
[capjamesg] 100%
#
[capjamesg] Having fun and making things makes the web more wonderful.

#
Loqi stream.indieweb.org is a web view of a stream of public posts with relevant hashtags across various services, that are also shown in the #stream chat channel https://indieweb.org/stream.indieweb.org

[capjamesg] why << Your blog / website might help historians in the future build a perspective of what life was like when you were writing / publishing: <blockquote>It’s not clear how much that’s on the Internet will persist, or for how long. But there’s a decent chance that your individual perspective could survive centuries even though you’re “just a common person.“</blockquote>
#
Loqi ok, I added "Your blog / website might help historians in the future build a perspective of what life was like when you were writing / publishing: <blockquote>It’s not clear how much that’s on the Internet will persist, or for how long. But there’s a decent chance that your individual perspective could survive centuries even though you’re “just a common person.“</blockquote>" to the "See Also" section of /why https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=110122&oldid=109281

[tantek] It looks like you got it very close. The wiki link you added doesn't work because it needs the "User:" prefix for MediaWiki to find your User: page in particular. And minor edit, looks like you changed the
{{addyourself}} template to inlining its contents and it's preferred to keep the template so if we update the template the updates show up here too.#
[tantek] See here to see the difference: https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=110124&oldid=110108&rcid=110038

hisacro archives of setlist https://displ.nl/rad/
#
hisacro awes at number of bridges this chan has
#
hisacro very cool
#
[fnhipster] nice. I wanted to add an indie station, just for fun in http://fnhispter.com, but got into a rabbit hole of licenses, what I could or could not stream, and abandoned that idea.
#
hisacro it depends on the type of music you are planning to stream
#
hisacro in my case, most of them are tape recording either from radio or discogs
#
hisacro mostly not from big studio backing $$

[fnhipster] That makes sense. I opted to create playlists for people to play on their own music provider.
