Welcome stephenphsmith!

[capjamesg]
What is getting started?
#
Loqi
🌱 Get started on the indieweb by connecting with the IndieWeb community, getting a personal domain, a place for your content, and setting up your home page and other IndieWeb essentials https://indieweb.org/Getting_started

You may find this wiki page helpful ^^

[capjamesg]: I can't afford a domain, however I have hosted a website on github pages.
#
stephenphsmith
I built most of this with org mode in emacs and a collection of scripts in sh that export a site and automatically push it to github, so all I really need to do to create a new post is to write into a file and run a script and voila!
#
stephenphsmith
It's not a full CMS but at least its got tagging features
#
stephenphsmith
Also, don't be scared by the fact that my website and my username are not the same, this is a pseudonym only
#
stephenphsmith
as in my username is a pseudonym
#
[capjamesg]
Your site looks great!
#
[KevinMarks]
[schmarty] I think we are beyond parasocial too https://bsky.app/profile/kevinmarks.com/post/3mbjomjwiqc25

aks: I also added Sveltia to my personal site, though currently only for "microblog" section. I don't plan to use it to write long blog posts, but its useful to make posting short microblog posts as easy as posting something on social media

(fair warning, Discord-style replies probably don't work very well across the IRC/Slack bridges)
#
[capjamesg]
Yeah. Discord replies aren’t nested in Slack or IRC so the context can get lost.
#
burgeonlab
nice. I like the about page and your backend process Ali. I noticed though sometimes the email is not wrapping the link mailto:someguyshutup5@gmail.com

What's the thinking behind the /blank page?
#
stephenphsmith
burgeonlab: @burgeonlab yes i know that sometimes the link doesn't work
#
stephenphsmith
because there was a reeent failure actually. i fat fingered a sed command and ended up deleting all my .org files which means i'll have to start over
#
stephenphsmith
i did a git revert by the time you saw it which actually returned it to its old state but still kind of ruined despite it
#
stephenphsmith
i'll have to rewrite everything from scratch and read my manuals correctly
#
stephenphsmith
regardless thanks for your comments :)
#
[capjamesg]
Ah that sucks 😭
#
[capjamesg]
Good luck getting everything set up again!
#
[capjamesg]
thamara_k Our /blank page is just for fun 😄

What is fun?
#
Loqi
😄 fun is one of the IndieWeb principles and a key motivation for the IndieWeb — making and using your own website should be fun, otherwise what’s the point? https://indieweb.org/fun
#
stephenphsmith
imagine defining fun

Thank you! It's still very much a work in progress, but I'm finally at a place where I'm happy with the design, typography, etc

Hello all! I’m Atlas, and I’m newly returning to the fun of making websites!
#
ZodiacalComet
Welcome back!
#
_atlasisabean_
Thank you! I used to do this all the time as a kid and as I’ve been getting my site set up (right now it’s just hosted through neocities with their domain, as I figure it all back out I figured that’s easier) and it’s been so fun and a huge relief

#
[capjamesg]
Do you have a website already?
#
[capjamesg]
If so, feel free to share it here! Otherwise, check out the getting started page on our wiki https://indieweb.org/Getting_Started 🙌
#
Peet-Janiken
No I'm still pretty buisy on a personal project that has to hit the dead line of may 15th but after that I'm definatly going to give it a shot would be a nice place to upload my work outside of social media
#
[capjamesg]
Amazing! The wiki is full of information, but we’re also here in chat if you have questions as you get started.
#
[capjamesg]
A lot of us use our websites to share what we’re making outside of social media, so you’re in good company!
#
Peet-Janiken
Thanks that will be nice, I'm not very good at programming.
#
Peet-Janiken
or computers ingeneral
#
[capjamesg]
That’s okay! There are plenty of beginner-friendly tools for getting a website set up. You definitely don’t need to code if you don’t want to.
#
[capjamesg]
https://omg.lol, https://bearblog.dev, and https://micro.blog are all popular tools in the community.
#
[capjamesg]
Each of those tools also has their own community around them too!
#
[capjamesg]
If you do want to code, we have the #indieweb-dev channel for technical questions. My best recommendation for getting started with HTML/CSS for coding a website is https://htmlforpeople.com.
