schmudde[KevinMarks]: It's a really beautiful article. I try to tell people that the 'internet is a really big place' but the reality is that people want an easy way to explore. There is plenty of good new 'old-style' stuff out there.
.trashprinceHello! Joining on Discord, I am being encouraged to post an introduction. Not much to say really, except that I intend to lurk for a bit to learn I suppose. I hope that's okay :)
[capjamesg]You might also enjoy exploring https://indieweb.org too. There are plenty of resources about personal websites on there. And of course weβre here to help in chat too!
.trashprinceThank you! I actually know enough to somewhat confidently code a site and se tup a domain, I suppose I'm just lurking to get an understanding of the culture and such and how, should I make the decision, to "springboard" myself into the community. What point of making a site if no one links to it initially, so it's not discoverable?
keplertrashprince: my opinion, the point of making a site is to start building your house in the "neighborhood" of the indie web, to find a spot and to go out and start meeting your neighbors. when my site first launched i made buttons for my non-indieweb friends because i didnt have any indie web friends yet, but i took my time exploring and leaving
keplerguestbook messages, and accumulated a bunch of indieweb neighbors since then! my site wasnt linked anywhere at first but there's a lot of people who link back to me now :)
[capjamesg].trashprince One way to springboard yourself into the community is to share your website here! I think everyone here loves seeing new websites π
gRegorApril1, that list of HWC events needs to be manually maintained on the wiki, so it tends to get behind unfortunately. You can browse https://events.indieweb.org/tag/hwc/archive though. Most past events there should have links under "Notes" to the wiki pages.
