spinningarrow What is the Homebrew Website Club meetup? What happens during one?
#
[capjamesg] What is Homebrew Website Club?
#
Loqi Homebrew Website Club is a growing world-wide network of meetups for everyone who wants to take back their web experience from social media silos, and own their online identities & content, or just want support with blogging! https://indieweb.org/Homebrew_Website_Club

#
[capjamesg] We get together for ~90 minutes every week or two to chat about all things personal websites.
#
[capjamesg] Topics you can expect include what we have been building on our websites, ideas we have for things to build, and any questions members of the community have about either their personal website or the broader indie web.
#
[capjamesg] At yesterday’s HWC Europe, for example, we spent an hour talking about collaborating on the indie web.

[capjamesg] I have just updated the page to be clearer that the HWC Europe listed on that page is now served by HWC London / Europe. (London / Europe refers to the time-zone of the event)
#
[capjamesg] It starts at 7pm UK time and goes on to 8:30pm.

[sockblaster] Hi dev folks, I’m new around here. I’m new to IndieWeb in general. I’ve been interested for a while. Life continues to get in the way, but I had a concrete reason to join and I took advantage of it 👋

[sockblaster] > Are you interested in coding or more interested in having a tool that’s ready to go?
#
[sockblaster] It depends on the goal of a project. For example, one current project I’m trying to just find a tool for is a bridge between Discord and email to help a project I’m volunteering for collaborate with people that can’t go on Discord. [Sophia_wood] told me about your bridge tool, for example, and I thought I might be able to look at least look at that code or fork it, or maybe find something that’s already built, and it turns out I als

[sockblaster] learn more about the indie web in general. For another project, I’m building a testing framework for a niche platform and I haven’t seen another tool for my particular audience out there (pro bono legal services). Because I’m the one building it, I really want to understand what I’m doing with that code - I’ve found it pretty intricate. Also, it’s fun lol. If there were already something better out there, though, I’d help my u

[sockblaster] that. I enjoy coding and I also tend to be goal focused, which don’t always agree with each other.

thudfactor Hi! I just joined, so this is my introduction. My main weblog is at https://thudfactor.com/ and I have a movie-oriented one at https://filmhydra.com/ . I've been doing web development for ... a long time now ... and was a blogger back in the '00s. I'm really glad to see a lot more people creating for the web again!

[fluffy] It’s a little baffling how many people on the r/indieweb subreddit seem to know nothing about http://indieweb.org and the protocols discussed in these circles. For example, https://www.reddit.com/r/indieweb/comments/1u3cne2/universal_mentions_for_the_social_web/ (both the post itself and the comment by happy_hawking).

504slashdiv im guessing that the reddit indieweb seems to contain more people coming in from like, explore pages with little context to what the indieweb consists of
#
[fluffy] Yeah, I assume most folks participating there came at it from the various YouTube videos about “What is the Indie Web?” none of which ever mention http://indieweb.org and all talk about, like, Neocities and whatever.
#
gRegor Huh, interestingly their product page does mention webmentions https://blogwarp.com/open
#
[fluffy] Hm, looks like they link specifically to http://webmention.net so they’re aware of the notification part, just not the mf2 part? maybe?
