I'm trying to remember this thing I saw where someone was running their own DNS server which basically acted as a mini-internet totally seperate from the rest of the internet
#
calciume
Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
#
doesnm
calciume: OpenNIC? DN42?

[tantek]
what is Tailscale
#
Loqi
friendly reminder doesnm [tantek], can you move the tech talk (TailScale) to #indieweb-dev to keep this channel more inclusive and inviting?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "Tailscale" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "Tailscale is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[tantek]
yep there you go

doesnm I havent heard of these but it's kinda like that! At least I know the terminology now; alternative DNS root
#
calciume
The only difference though is that this alternative DNS root intentionally only had their own TLDs on their DNS server so it was seperate from the rest of the internet in that way

Are there IndieWeb members who have DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) / are a plural system?
#
thatoddshade
What is DID
#
Loqi
A personal domain is a domain name (or web address) that you personally own, control, and use to represent yourself on the internet https://indieweb.org/DID
#
thatoddshade
oh wait it’s an homonym
#
thatoddshade
Wondering because they typically have multiple blogs
#
thatoddshade
what is plurality
#
Loqi
✨ Pluralism is a key principle of the IndieWeb, in particular encouraging a plurality of diverse approaches and projects that interoperate with each other using open standards, in contrast to monoculture efforts which require or even encourage everyone to install the same software, or use the same online service, in order to interoperate https://indieweb.org/plurality,

Polysemy again
#
thatoddshade
(oh wait i should say that in meta)
