[tantek]anyone here participating in https://moon-zine.net/ (Masto https://mastodon.social/@TheMoonZine ) ? They hashtag their Masto description #indieweb and also some of their posts (whenever they award emoji trophies) — neither of which seem "indieweb" but rather more like an eccentric or indie silo.

gRegoragreed, seems like an indie silo. Could use the random emojis they provide to write a story on your own site, though. It's an interesting concept, haven't participated myself.

Xlongdivision[tantek]: tangential but is the term "IndieWeb" protected in any sense or can it be thrown around like "open source" is now a days. Not saying that anything should be done in this particular case. just curious
[snarfed]afaik it's not trademarked, if that's what you mean

LoqiA commons is a centralized content hosting website, where people can freely contribute content, often using external web-based identity like IndieAuth, collaborate with others, and easily retrieve their own or shared content with little or no restrictions on importing or exporting https://indieweb.org/commons
LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "community web" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "community web is ____", a sentence describing the term)
[capjamesg]What is the best way to communicate a website represents an archive and that at some point the domain you used to get here will expire so the archived page is the canonical one?
aaronpkwhat i've done to deprecate old domains is just make them send an http permanent redirect immediately. that way indexers pick up the redirect before the domain expires
solonovamaxon the indieweb.org site, if I attempt to go to a random page using https://indieweb.org/Special:Random, it seems to always send me to the same page (/Lighthouse). is this due to cloudflare caching, or because something is broken?
LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "archived project" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "archived project is ____", a sentence describing the term)
[tantek]archived project is a [[project]], often an open source repository, that the primary author or maintainer has decided to no longer maintain or accept feedback and has placed into a read-only state that omits the ability to comment or open issues.
[tantek][capjamesg] I've seen enough people archive projects that I thought it was worth creating a page for it. Feel free to expand with brainstorming e.g. like with the image you shared above!
[tantek][capjamesg] re: "worth saying on the new page that the canonical location has changed" I think so, and you can put a query string into redirect so it goes to newlocation?from=oldsubdomain and then based on that query param show a message or not whether it's "update your bookmarks" or whatever
[tantek]that may be better for #indieweb-dev to explore further tho

[Mike]@Xlongdivision Agree completely. There's no way they can keep subsidizing this much work at this much of a loss. Don't know when that bird will come how to roost, but it seems likely that it will.
Xlongdivisionglad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks that. I keep hearing "soon AI will be able to do X" and my reaction is "yeah but will I be able to afford it?"
lesleylaiMy anecdotal observation is that with AI, skills probably won't degrade as quickly, but people lose patience with doing things. We used to spend days struggling with writing articles, code, and debugging, etc. Nowadays, people often use AI as soon as they hit the first obstacle or bug. Further, there's also social pressure that says, "You shouldn't work that slowly!" I recently watched a video about how spending a long tim
lesleylaiAs a somewhat anti-AI person, I want to believe that continuing to do my own thing is better for me. Unfortunately, I don't believe that there is much empirical evidence on this yet. The article you linked from Scientific America is interesting, but there was previously a highly published (and often talked about by anti-AI folks) study that was retracted (see https://retractionwatch.com/2026/09/14/american-psychological-as
