[capjamesg] Blocking *.surge.sh may be a good call.

#
[snarfed] blocking surge.sh is probably overkill, looks like a legit web host, https://surge.sh/
#
[snarfed] ...but yeah indienews quality in general is definitely an open question, more now than ever, https://indieweb.org/IndieNews#Enforcing_relevance

#
[tantek] Until Surge blocks their spam problem, we should block it
brennan and jonnybarnes joined the channel
#
[tantek] Again, subdomains on content platforms are not indieweb (no longterm independent ownership), certainly ok to block them if they become a pain (drain community labor) from IndieNews or other community resource
EighthGuest joined the channel
#
[snarfed] "not indieweb" is a bit harsh, yes we strongly encourage owning your own domain, but we also talk about subdomain hosts as one easy/free gradual onramp
#
[snarfed] ...but yeah given the number of different surge subdomains that spammed us, and that we rarely if ever see people with personal web sites there, blocking them for now makes sense

#
[tantek] You're snarfed, that's too harsh a framing
#
[tantek] How about subdomain on a content platform = indie-curious 👀
#
[tantek] Especially if it's a content platform that has a personal domain option
#
[tantek] What is custom domain
#
Loqi It looks like we don't have a page for "custom domain" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "custom domain is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[tantek] Didn't we just define this (or something like it)
#
[tantek] custom domain is /custom_domain_name
#
Loqi ok
