kensanataI half remember there being some markup to add to my search box such that browsers will offer users to 'install' this as a search engine. Does anybody recall something like it? I looked at https://indieweb.org/search and couldn't find it.

kensanatacapjamesg: I recently saw a post on fedi that I can't seem to forget: "Websites have been asking me for so long whether I am a human or a bot, I'm actually no longer sureβ¦" π€ (paragraphrasing from memory)
kensanataThat reminds me, I think I have a pretty good defence setup against AI scraper bots, so if anybody here needs pointers, I might be able to help. The pretty dense and technical description is here: https://transjovian.org/view/fight-bots/index
offeringofpieoooh ty kensanata. I was thinking about obfuscating pages with lorem ipsum upon requests that did not pass. many agents try to fretch text/markdown before trying html, so it could be a trivial switch π
petermolnarcareful with ASN level blocking, once microsoft, google, etc falls into that you log your site/server out of indieweb tools, mail servers, and so on
kensanatapetermolnar: That is true, of course. And I'm basically blocking them most of the time. Since I use fail2ban, these bans are ephemeral but they always manage to ban themselves again.
LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "human.json" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "human.json is ____", a sentence describing the term)
Loqifriendly reminder jone42, we try to keep jargon (JSON, protocol) out of this channel to make it more inviting to newcomers, can you move this to #indieweb-dev?
