[colinwalker] :facepalm: Realised why plugin wasn't working when moving the save_post action to an include - forgot to change the criteria for the nonce. It was still set as basename(__FILE__) so was obviously never going to work. D'oh! Changed it to a specific named action and now all good :thumbsup:
