isn't params[:me] the full url to my website?
#
aaronpk
Jeena: the authorization endpoint needs to return the full URL of the user who logged in. the way you have it right now it's echoing back whatever the client sent.
#
aaronpk
so that would be a pretty bad security hole since you can't rely on trusting the client
#
aaronpk
and indieauth.com doesn't actually send me= at that step either https://indieweb.org/authorization-endpoint#Auth_code_verification
#
Jeena
ah hm I see
#
Jeena
so I should replace it with root_url or something like that?
#
aaronpk
make sure it includes https and the hostname too
#
Jeena
hm ok, I fixed that, but I still have the same problem, the redirected url looks like this: https://indieauth.com/auth/indieauth/redirect?code=eyJh...&state=dd5d6d596812a00ac12c719603681dcf&me=https%3A%2F%2Fjeena.net%2F

aaronpk: how do you like your new icon font setup? looks like icomoon? did you do something custom to add extras, e.g. swarm?
#
aaronpk
yeah i've been using that for a while, just hadn't done it in the footer yet
#
aaronpk
most of them are from font-awesome
#
aaronpk
if one is missing, then I go hunt down an SVG version and tweak it in illustrator a bit, then upload it to icomoon
#
aaronpk
i should probably upload this icomoon source so others can use it
#
schmarty
i keep waffling on whether to stick with icon fonts or go all-in on SVG.
#
aaronpk
oh yeah
#
aaronpk
i don't quite understand the tradeoffs
#
schmarty
i am drawn to SVG but there are so many more available resources for icon fonts
#
Loqi
I agree
#
aaronpk
i mean the icon fonts are svgs internally
#
schmarty
SVG icons are kind of muddy for me because there are so many ways to do them
#
aaronpk
i like that the icon font will take the colors of whatever text it's in
#
schmarty
yeah, that is a nice feature that is somewhat more difficult to replicate for SVG.

#
petermolnar
I vote for svg, saying that as a long lived font fan
#
aaronpk
i know people like svg. but why
#
KartikPrabhu
SVG is good for icons it has a smaller size (usually) that icon fonts
#
petermolnar
I could inline them as <svg> as the beginning of the files
#
petermolnar
no external resource
#
KartikPrabhu
also much easier to handle SVG sprites than font/image sprites
#
aaronpk
the generated svg file is 32kb, the ttf and woff are 7kb
#
petermolnar
can you gzip woff?
#
petermolnar
because svg gets gzipped
#
aaronpk
icomoon.io handles spriting it for me so I end up with just <i class="icon-indiewebcamp"></i> in my source which is pretty nice
#
petermolnar
(if the webserver configured properly)
#
KartikPrabhu
i think woff2 comes with its own compression
#
petermolnar
I do miss one feature compared to fonts though: with fonts, I was able to add icons solely from CSS with ::before
#
petermolnar
not possible with svg
#
KartikPrabhu
petermolnar: you could set the svg as background image to achieve a similar effect
#
KartikPrabhu
aaronpk: fair enough. my size comment was a guess to be honest
#
petermolnar
I don't like that approach, but that's certainly true
#
KartikPrabhu
also, if you inline SVG you can change its propreties with CSS directly
#
KartikPrabhu
that is how I change my logo colours on some articles

Flash of Unstyled Font
#
aaronpk
mine just don't appear for a moment
#
dgold
so if you're using the private namespace for the font, you get some weird Chinese glyphs for a second before the icon kicks in
#
dgold
think I moved all mine over to svg after reading a sara soueidan article
#

yes - here is the article she linked to: https://css-tricks.com/icon-fonts-vs-svg/

Icon fonts also have some accessibility issues, since a SR reads the underlying characters
#
KartikPrabhu
[keithjgrant]: I was about to mention that. Does that even happen when the iconfonts are in the pseudo-element like ::before?
#
aaronpk
yeah i thought that didn't happen with ::before
#
KartikPrabhu
in fact that does happen with SVG icons that are in the HTML. So I use a "aria-hidden" attribute on them
