i’m debating writing a mobile page that lets me “check in” to coffee shops I visit. For some reason I want to track how often I go where
#
[Michael_Beckwit
bonus if I can trigger a mobile notification to remind me to check in when it detects i’m within distance
#
[Michael_Beckwit
at minimum, it’d just be buttons or dropdowns that are pre-set with common locations
#
aaronpk
oof haha
#
aaronpk
thats a rabbit hole but do it!
#
aaronpk
If you do, please do it as a micropub client so other ppl can use it too! :-)
#
[Michael_Beckwit
“you’ve visited this location 5 times this week…are you sure you’re not addicted?”
#
[Michael_Beckwit
that would be an interesting angle to go with, and a grand learning opportunity
#
aaronpk
I mean really it just means making it send the data to your server in a particular format
#
aaronpk
you've gotta make a post request at some point, so make it look like ownyourswarm's and everyone else can use it too
#
[Michael_Beckwit
runs off to star/bookmark for potential future forking
#
aaronpk
Oh definitely don't use that as a starting point haha
#
aaronpk
its tightly integrated with Swarm
#
aaronpk
and is not set up at all to work offline
#
[Michael_Beckwit
surely there’s something that i could borrow inspiration from.
#

[aaronpk] Teacup-Offline: Offline-first app for tracking food and drink posts
#
aaronpk
Thats my offline micropub client
#
aaronpk
that'd be a good place to start probably
#
[Michael_Beckwit
starred and bookmarked as well

Getting location in the browser is remarkably easy.

been saving a bunch of map files to one day figure out how to add them to the website

[Rose]
Hah, I love IndieWeb. I wanted a way to upload images (or other files) to a specific subdomain on my server from my iPhone, 5 minutes of messing with Aaron’s sample media endpoint and modifying my regular Shortcut and I’m done.
#
[jgmac1106]
Getting a weird 403 mesaage on Indigineous. I see my channels when I log into aperture. But Indigineous sayd I have no internet connection
#
[jgmac1106]
When I try to refreah my endpoints I get the 403 error
#
[jgmac1106]
All my endpoints are correct, can't figure this out. Been a few weeks with out a reader

What do your server logs say?
#
[Rose]
And follow up to my earlier media endpoint usage, I built a little page with IndieAuth to view the images: https://resources.rosemaryorchard.com/drafts-course/Screenshot%202019-08-15%20at%2018.36.45.png
#
[Rose]
A good coding exercise to see if I understand this stuff, not amazing but good enough for being done on an iPad with a flaky LTE connection on the underground 😄
#
[tantek]
That is pretty amazing, especially for building on an iPad!
#
[Rose]
I used Bootstrap, so the design is not mine at all 😛
#
[Rose]
But that means it scales easily. Of course I can call the media endpoint for the last images uploaded, but if I want to scroll back it's nice to have an existing GUI
#
[Rose]
I may make it available on GitHub as a gist, would anyone else be interested in a page which lets them view the contents of their media endpoint?
#
[tantek]
I feel like that would be anyone with a media endpoint!
#
[Rose]
I'll tidy my code up then. It's using IndieAuth which should be changed to something else at some point, but it's a proof of concept as much as anything else 🙂
#
[Rose]
First things first however, which is not dev related: packing for San Francisco!

GWG, what are your thoughts about a resurgence of XFN (moving here from meta)

Whether rel or u- I'd like to use some of them to build follower lists
#
[tantek]
that's a pretty interesting use-case I agree
#
[tantek]
I'd like to see it better understood and defined as part of the user flow of following in general
#
[tantek]
e.g. you find a new site you like, how do you "follow" it / that person?
#
[tantek]
you see a comment from someone in your reader, how do you follow them?
#
[tantek]
the "follower lists" IMO are a side-effect of understanding how to make following work in general

We had the discussion of follow posts
#
GWG
With the draft property follow-of, which I think a few people are using
#
GWG
I think cleverdevil did an h-feed of follow-of entries, rather than individual posts
#
GWG
Follow is a subscription term also
#
GWG
Now, how you follow depends on how you consume
#
GWG
This is all about discovery

[tantek] Sorry, I forgot to follow up about the photos in your feed working better in Micro.blog... Let me review that again.
#

[manton]: [tantek] left you a message 3 days, 1 hour ago: I'm stuck on how to get any of my photos to show up in micro.blog/t and nothing "micro.blog" is web searchable in practice (for obvious reasons) — are there limitations to micro.blog photo syndication? E.g. only one photo (no /multiphoto support), or max "caption" length, or something else? Am about to give-up or stick 🖼 in Atom feed photo entries to indicate to Atom consumers that there are photos there they are missing.

What’s this about Tumblr removing outgoing RSS? I’ve never encountered that at all. https://tumblr.beesbuzz.biz/rss works just fine regardless of user-agent, and also things like https://tumblr.beesbuzz.biz/tagged/anxiety/rss too. And it also works for tumblr blogs without a custom domain.
#
sknebel
[fluffy]: they do geo-ip. If you have an EU IP and don't use special user-agents, you get a GDPR page instead of the feed
#
[tantek]
Oh wow that definitely deserves documenting on /Tumblr
#
sknebel
interestingly, the tumblr.beesbuzz.biz ones don't have it, at least not right now
#
KartikPrabhu
wait is GDPR an issue for RSS or feeds in general?
#
[KevinMarks]
Hm works for me in the EU
#
[KevinMarks]
Oh, custom domain, that's why
#
[KevinMarks]
No Oath on custom domains
#
[KevinMarks]
Whereas matt.tumblr.com/rss gives me Oath in the browser, but unmung hides behind the google user agent and shows it
#

snarfed: did bridgy markup change? My name is appearing repeatedly in the content:

ah okay I never ran into the oath/gdpr thing

#
@kevinmarks
@photomatt @automattic @tumblr I'd like to read it but it's spewing Oaths. You could try the http://tumblelog.xyz trick to remove that until you get root. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EBzmRZzXUAE29FF.jpg
