capability URLs and RSS? hmmm 🍿
#
[tantek]1
capability URLs *usually* have some sort of ugliness to them, like a series of random-looking hex digits etc., so people can be forgiven for sharing a "clean-looking" URL that *looks* like it's meant to be shared
#
[tantek]1
and linked to
#
[tantek]1
also wth would RSS-only content actually be? individual posts as RSS feed files? paragraphs as RSS <item> tags?
#
[tantek]1
once it's in HTML, on a clean looking URL, as KartikPrabhu says, it has left the barn so far behind an observer just sees a free horse galloping across the meadow

all this talk about RSS Club, and it feels like folks are missing part of the point. It IS public, but it's done with a sheen of exclusivity and some bit of cleverness. My reading of the thing is that this was designed with faux-exclusiveness as a means of helping to make RSS "cool" again and get people to subscribe to get the content that others are missing out on—F.O.M.O. as marketing.

marksuth[d]: I have some questions re Indigenous if you have a moment
#
GWG
marksuth[d]: What are you planning in terms of progression?
#
GWG
I am a user of the Android app and have used the desktop one
#
marksuth[d]
Main plan at the moment is to get the app so it has the same core code base across android, iOS and desktop, using Apache Cordova to build cross each version.
#
marksuth[d]
I’m taking the android version as the most complete version of the app in terms of required functionality.
#
GWG
marksuth[d]: Anything I can do as a user?
#
GWG
I don't know much about Cordova
#
GWG
But I do about Micropub and such

At the minute flagging any pet peeves is massively helpful, I’m working on a front end only build to kind of give myself a bit more of a direction and focus on the actually functionality.
#
GWG
marksuth[d]: There are a few changes about media upload
#
GWG
For example, the ability to upload several photos at once, then an improved picker to use them in posts...it would really help my photo posting workflow
#
marksuth[d]
Yes, I spotted those, and I am keen to get the media part of the app properly nailed, as most of the things I post from my phone are photos
#
GWG
marksuth[d]: Same here. Swentel and I had a good thing going where I'd support the backend of a feature in the WordPress plugin so we'd have two endpoints supporting what the client did
#
GWG
Happy to pick that up
#
marksuth[d]
that makes a lot of sense to me
#
GWG
marksuth[d]: Which side appeals the most, the Microsub or Micropub end of the coin?
#
GWG
I am interested in both, but making posting easier is a big thing for me
#
marksuth[d]
In terms of immediate focus, I want to get the micropub aspects nailed,
#
GWG
marksuth[d]: I'm here to help then
#
marksuth[d]
Excellent!
#
GWG
There have been some extensions in Micropub I can highlight
#
marksuth[d]
That would be really useful, thanks!
#
GWG
This one is the one that would allow for a gallery picker

[dshanske] #14 q=source on Media Endpoint
#
GWG
What is missing is a filter for only doing images, but would assume mime-type=image would return just images
#
GWG
Also, a question on the return as to whether the endpoint should provide a thumbnail url in addition to the full one. We lack a format yet for that.

Anyone implementing https://github.com/indieweb/micropub-extensions/issues/13 with something to solve thumbnails?

Quoted in the article from the project Discord server: “The truth is that Twitter could become decentralized almost overnight by simply adding some JSON-LD serializers, an inbox endpoint and maybe tweaking their storage schema slightly to become part of the fediverse – anyone who wouldn’t want to use twitter.com could follow twitter.com users from their own server and so on. That does not require 2 years of making people who don’t

@aaronpk Hey Aaron, do you know if PGP is working correctly for Webmentions sign-in? I get a very vague "There was a problem!" no matter how I choose to sign the challenge. I saw other reports on GitHub as well. https://github.com/aaronpk/indielogin.com/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+pgp
