#maxwelljoslynangelo at what level are the apps on ragt.ag coordinated - assembled into a website using understory? or a la carte apps w/o web framework?
#[tantek]GitHub's not-logged-in UI is so confusing
#[tantek]massive green Sign Up button. top right also has a prominent Sign Up button, then only next to it in "plain text" with no affordance indicating that it's a button does it say "Sign In"
#[tantek]It's almost like they hate existing users and would rather people signed up with new accounts
#[tantek]also repository is a horrible piece of jargon

#[Jacob_Hall][tantek] for a while, that plaintext "Sign In" button disappeared on a vertical mobile screen. It was so weird

#cambridgeport90Not only that, but will be nice when Twitter's BlueSky project decides to step up, though not sure if the Elon trying to terminate his Twitter buy deal Shinanegans messed that up at all?
#cambridgeport90But on the other hand, has anyone heard of Reaktor? https://reaktor.me, is the main web page. It's supposedly from Hamburg, and it's made as a AP-first CMS; could theoretically be extended to support Indieweb concepts, as well... though I think personally that AP is a form of Indieweb. I can understand if that's not going to be welcomed of an opinion in here, and I'm fine with that.

#[Murray]tantek: that is a pattern which seems oddly consistent (the giant SIGN UP and tiny, partially hidden _sign in_). Feels like an over-emphasis on signs ups within company KPIs or something 🤷♂️
#[tantek]Bluesky seems to have gone off the rails. After jack's "web5" statements, I can't take any of it seriously any more

#IWDiscordGateway<capjamesg> See Netflix for another example of that [Murray].
#IWDiscordGateway<capjamesg> Big sign up form in the middle of the home page, much smaller sign in button.
#IWDiscordGateway<capjamesg> Some sites make the Sign in button a lot harder to find.
#IWDiscordGateway<capjamesg> (i.e. big coloured sign up button and a text link to sign in)
#[tantek]I really don't understand why this is a thing. I mean they should be able to know via a cookie that you’ve signed in before, and even cookie your username/email that you used to sign-in
#[schmarty][manton] is there a place to follow development of meridian / latl.ong? i currently have the github open in a tab that i refresh every day or so. 😅
#Loqi[[schmarty]] anyone here implemented an IndieAuth metadata endpoint? how about a client that uses it? i know i'm late to the game since it was added to the spec in Dec 2020 but it seems like we have no documented examples.
#gRegorI ran into the same token introspection endpoint question and think I set my metadata endpoint to "none" for the auth type, heh
#GWGgRegor: I did that too, despite spec, due lack of adoption so far
#aaronpkOverall he has some good analysis in there, it's just some nitpicky terminology things I want to clear up
#gRegorYep, I think I followed your lead there GWG :)
#gRegorI don't really understand what the optimal process is there
#GWGgRegor: We tabled it. Either a token or basic auth

#[manton]We did roll out a prototype API server… The idea is this could be used for simple apps, or someone could clone it and spin up their own server and data, which is likely what Micro.blog will do. This is currently only loaded with a couple cities like Portland and Austin for testing. https://api.latl.ong/places/nearby?latitude=45.522186&longitude=-122.672948
#jackyso very random: https://indieweb.org/Microsub-spec#Endpoints mention that authentication is _required_ for Microsub. I have a use-case where I'd like a client to be able to connect to a microsub server but it would only be able to view items - nothing else
#veraciouxHi. I have recently set up a debian VPS and I want to self-host a personal mail server there. I have a django backend with the standard user/auth system with users saved in a postgres database. Is there a mail server app that can automatically set up an email address for each user from the database by reading the email column?
