what's a good self-hosted atom feed showcase/viewer?
#
Soni
also what's with all the centralized services that are apparently "required" for indieweb?
#
Soni
sure selfhosting your data is cool and all but ????????? what
#
capjamesg
Can you elaborate Soni?
#
capjamesg
There aren't any requirements to use a particular service to be IndieWeb. Having a personal website is IndieWeb!
#
Soni
bridgy fed, webmention.io, etc
#
aaronpk
required?
#
Soni
"required"
#
aaronpk
please by all means run your own webmention receiver, i made webmention.io for people who don't want to
#
Soni
more like... strongly encouraged
#
aaronpk
i wouldn't call bridgy centralized either, since it doesn't actually store any data, it just translates already centralized services like twitter to webmentions that you can store on your own
#
rubenwardy
indieweb isn't about selfhosting, it's about owning your identity and data
#
rubenwardy
as long as you own your own domain and the service is open, it's fine
#
rubenwardy
also all those services use open source software

also I've been dying for other people to build more backfeed services (ie Bridgy alternatives) forever. almost no one has. turns out it's not easy 🤷‍♂️
#
[snarfed]
aaronpk++ for building one of the very few in ownyourswarm

#
aaronpk
we should add an FAQ about self-hosting
#
[snarfed]
I think I did. Looking
#
aaronpk
i just added this, i didn't see any mention of hosting on the page yet https://indieweb.org/FAQ#Do_I_need_to_self-host_my_website
#
[snarfed]
aaronpk++ looks good! couldn't find anything I did
#
[snarfed]
do you have more time for all this right now because you're traveling, so you can't work on house stuff? 😆
#
aaronpk

When we were moving back to the UK in 2017 I found some boxes in the garage we hadn't unpacked since moving out of our UK house in 1997. My instinct was to just dump them, but R insisted we open them

Does micropub.rocks support PKCE? I'm trying to validate my in-progress micropub server, but my server complains that the auth request has no code_challenge
#
aaronpk
Oh I thought I updated it but it's possible I did not yet!
#
havenmatt
Gotcha. How new is PCKE in IndieAuth?
#
aaronpk
Depends on how you count 😅
