was that post from http://micro.blog? I also see the borked characters on Mastodon via Elk, if that's useful
#
[tantek]
What? How did you see it on Mastodon? Oh hey it's on https://mastodon.social/tags/indieweb now
#
[Murray]
I see your post twice on my feed, picking up from the `#indieweb` tag. Once in full with everything formatted, and once truncated and with broken characters
#
[Murray]
ah yeah, just checking now, I see the first is from http://tantek.com and the latter is from http://micro.blog, so that makes sense 🙂

[manton] is there a problem with the special characters in my Atom feed that's causing the broken characters in the http://micro.blog version in Mastodon?
#
[tantek]
ok this is very weird
#
[tantek]
if I go to w3c.social and search for https://indieweb.social/@tantek.com@tantek.com/113279025869592096, then that post suddently starts showing up on my @-@ profile view on w3c.social

[preview] [Tantek Çelik] I have put a lot of thought into deliberately shifting¹ metaphors², often in the context of the #indieweb³. One goal is to replace use of...

Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next

aaronpk: regarding wmio and multiple URLs for the same content, would it make sense to have wmio follow and store for rel=canonical links in the target page? (in addition to or instead of redirects)
#
aaronpk
redirects are easier, but yeah it could look for rel=canonical too
#
aaronpk
still doesn't fix the issue if they change a post URL
#
[schmarty]
For sure!
#
aaronpk
i will add it to the issue

hey there, I'm testing the Pelican SSG, following the steps under getpelican.com/#quickstart, but the localhost address doesn't yield anything... any idea what could be my problem?

i need to replace the ORM that webmention.io uses, and I feel like at that point it's gutting the entire code base, so i might as well rewrite it in PHP so that it's more sustainable in the future
#
aaronpk
also because webmention.io currently delegates its microformats processing to XRay anyway, which is already in PHP
#
aaronpk
but then i go and look at all the code and get overwhelmed at how much work it will be
#
[schmarty]
aaronpk: lookin' for collaborators? 😅
#
aaronpk
I mean sure why not!

[tantek]
aaronpk that sounds like a good opportunity for a small function/library if it doesn't exist — webmention target canonicalization
#
[tantek]
my guess is that code already exists in a bunch of implementations and could be extracted / generalized?
#
[KevinMarks]
Mention.tech follows redirects (and iirc remembers them to validate the target in the source)
#
[KevinMarks]
Not sure about canonical though
#
[tantek]
need a PHP library for this just like we have a PHP library for link rel processing

this is separate from wm verification, right? for a wm to verify, the source document needs to link to the exact wm target, right? ie if the target URL redirects, and the source links to its redirect location, that doesn't verify, right?
#
[snarfed]
third paragraph of https://webmention.net/draft/#webmention-verification seems pretty clear on this, but figured I'd check

Blake Watson dropped a great resource today for people new to learning HTML: https://htmlforpeople.com/

[mattl]
very nice!

nsmsn: thanks for sharing

It was the best thing I got in my email inbox today, besides notifications from you in GitHub, mattl

it's a shame to see that VS Code is the best thing we can recommend for people learning HTML now 😕

[mattl] there should really be a simplified version. I really liked Brackets when Adobe came out with it. It was perfect for a designer like me making simple sites

I got an export of all my data from GitHub, and I'm starting to think of how I'd like it structured for putting on my personal website. I have data for stuff like whenever I opened, closed, tagged, or commented on an issue, and I'm wondering what it would look like to put all events pertaining to one issue on one page, like the GitHub UI. Would that be okay or would indieWeb still prefer to have each event be it's own post.

Looks like Brackets is still kicking: https://brackets.io/

interesting that GNAP went with signatures everywhere (I hadnt really kept up with it). but it also gets rid of the expectation of preregistered clients

thepaperpilot, short answer, we don't know yet. lots of brainstorming on https://indieweb.org/code , https://indieweb.org/issue , https://indieweb.org/pull_request !
