theoretically my api should collect webmentions now. would someone like to send a like or a comment to it? https://serverless.industries/2024/05/31/digital-cinema.en.html
#
perryflynn
(it will not appear on the website, this will come in the next few days)
#
aaronpk
you can always test with webmention.rocks!
#
perryflynn
ah cool!

is there any way to send myself a webmention from an external site to test if I can receive them? I don't know microformats that well so I'd prefer not to handcraft it
#
maxb1
hey, so I discovered that, but I would need to use the receiver tests for my purposes right? when I try that, it says that I must authenticate on the same site I want to send the webmention to
#
aaronpk
yes, you need to log in to the site first, so that people don't just use webmention.rocks to spam random websites
#
maxb1
hmm, i understand that spam is a concern, but i was sorta hoping there would be a service to send a quick-and-dirty webmention to myself to see if my webmention endpoint is set up correctly. it sounds like my options are 1) implement indieauth on my site so i can send myself a webmention using webmention.rocks, or 2) learn microformats better and host another site on a static hosting service to try to send my own?
#
aaronpk
you don't need to implement indieauth, you just need web sign-in. if you've logged in to the wiki before you can log in to webmention.rocks
#
aaronpk
if you haven't yet, then you need to either link to github from your site, or link to your email address, as described here https://indielogin.com/setup

you could also use cURL
#
aaronpk
there's sample posts with microformats here if you want to copy paste some html somewhere https://github.com/voxpelli/node-webmention-testpinger/tree/main/templates
#
aaronpk
linked from webmention.rocks
#
maxb1
got it, okay. i was originally hoping for a service that would give me a temporary ID so that I could send a webmention as that user, because sending a webmention from myself to myself isn't as convincing as it coming purely from a third-party
#
gRegor
Are you just testing receiving, or testing processing certain post types like replies, likes, etc? microformats shouldn't be necessary for the former.
#
maxb1
yeah i'm testing receiving certain types like replies/likes. so I need the source URL to be actually dereferencable
#
gRegor
gotcha
#
maxb1
I also found this tool on the wiki, but it doesn't seem to create a representative h-card, so it can't be used to validate the user: commentpara.de
#
maxb1
i'll probably just add the web sign in stuff to my site; sounds easy enough
