After months of primarily theoretical learning about accessibility I now have a pair programmer friend who is in leadership of an org and is blind and we are working on accessibility of a website together for a small org. I'm so happy with it and it started out on the right foot

That sounds great [morgan]
#
[morgan]
It's really cool and emotionally nutritious after being engaged in the theory for a while deeply

[morgan]
Just like any relationship you kind of start slow and small but quite honestly I could see myself doing a business venture with this person, they have significant years of experience teaching and using assistive tech, and I'm juiced up on the latest standards trends and a lot of modern tech

fwiw granary uses CDATA for both RSS and Atom
#
[tantek]
I slam whatever XHTML I feel like into my Atom entries. Seems to work fine.

[morgan] it is a great way to get a solid reality check. In the late 90s early to mid 00s I worked in a large federal government agency and we had quite a few people with various abilities to help us test our work to across a broad range of needs. Myself and my teams learned a ton and it drastically improved our offerings on many fronts.
#
[morgan]
The market seems to be 📉 but I am sufficiently interested and motivated to pursue it anyways
#
[morgan]
I think the main thing that makes it feel so good is that this pair program relationship was founded on a strongly equal footing, if anything I am a technical servant to someone in leadership, and it feels really dignified. I'm really hopeful that we can continue our work. I'm having lots of daydream ideas about a HTML page that would advertise our services if we were to offer something

do you remember the platypus attack?

CrowderSoup
I (surprisingly) do lol. Or at least something similar. It was... a while ago haha.

I wonder how many "RSS parsers" would handle the exploding entities trap
#
CrowderSoup
[tantek]: I'd hope that most libraries for parsing RSS/XML would strip unsafe html but in the age of vibe-coding probably not many
#
[tantek]
lol if anyone is vibecoding parsers they're likely gonna have a bad time
#
[social]
Vibe coding has reintroduced a lot of problematic practices that had mostly gone away.

[Al_Abut]
Vibe coding is like the autogenerated markup from site builders.
#
[tantek]
But worse
#
[Al_Abut]
Definitely a race to the bottom

I remember in 2017 being introduced to Class based auto completion in PHP Storm. That stuff was cooking with gas, actually helped, made things faster and generally more on the rails rather than off any
#
[morgan]
Things got weird after initial stuff like that
#
[morgan]
Let's fill in this tiny gap with stuff that's already there to sprawling junk heaps

I’m more of a PHP Gambit dev. Throw some cards and see what happens

I don't suppose anyone has seen any Common Lisp implementations of e.g. microformats, micropub/sub? I haven't seen any in my own research
#
ulhar4409
Like, I could probably roll my own implementations of these, but it's not my favorite domain to spend time in

[artlung] one topic I’d love to explore in a future FrESH is web typography!
#
capjamesg
I know the basics of loading a font but I haven’t gone much further than that.
#
capjamesg
Variable fonts are the next thing I want to research.
#
[artlung]
Typography edition sounds like a solid focus
#
[artlung]
Turning that agenda into questions to explore would be good

the https://indieweb.org/variable_fonts page is a good place to start as it's based on a great IndieWebCamp keynote by [hibs]

The Richard Rutter book(s) on web typography are incredibly good if you don’t have it. It is a solid foundation.
