Netlify, a service provider Ive used for a while to host static websites, has started to introduce more "action required" items that feel like if they were really trying to be good to users would auto magically fix somehow. If you dont upgrade the binary option to upgrade the site, it will de activate. This is consistent with a pattern of increasing inherent deactivation somehow. Plus they added AI Agents. Just feels like another day in an

mandaris, I think you'll want to run your permalinks through indiewebify.me. it doesn't look like the h-entry is quite right, some of your author information is showing up as properties of the h-entry, e.g. the post name "Mandaris" but that isn't your intent :) https://indiewebify.me/validate-h-entry/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fmandarismoore.com%2F2026%2F01%2F14%2Fa-test-of-jpeg-xl%2F

mandaris, here is a minimal mockup where I adjusted your HTML to what I think the intent was. Main takeaway is if you do want to embed your author name, photo, and url in each post, you want `p-author h-card`: https://php.microformats.io/?id=20260116023150716 (I stripped out the Schema and some other stuff to simplify it a bit)

Happy to answer any questions, and/or maybe walk through on a call sometime. It can really help to screenshare these type of things

Documenting the answer to my earlier question in the random channel: http://kill-the-newsletter.com is the email-to-atom-feed tool I’m testing out to subscribe to the Dealgorithmed newsletter, let’s see how that goes.

Shoutout to the blog post that helped me decide which option to go with:

Does anyone know a good way to allow people who don't own a site to reply to my posts using webmentions? I guess I could point them to comment on syndicated posts on Bluesky or Mastodon and backfeed them with Bridgy, but that seems a bit roundabout to me

there's also https://commentpara.de/ , and you could make a traditional comment form

Thanks, I'll look into that! snarfed++

I keep meaning to email Christian about gRegor's PR. I'd also like to add some CSS styles.

what is comment parade
#
Loqi
commentpara.de is an open source system for anonymous sign-in and commenting, using building blocks IndieAuth, Micropub, and Webmention https://indieweb.org/Comment_Parade

It seems like most people here run blogs. I have no idea how to do that, and my site is mostly a gallery of pictures. Does anyone have any advice for running a site like that?
#

Maybe you already run a blog...a photo blog! :-)

if you are primarily interested in picture-sharing, i see no need to force a blog into the mix, unless you *want* to?

i had a blog section on my old site and barely used it at all, lmao

My photo site is way out of date. But yes - galleries and portfolios are also something I like to do. My main site is still in a silo.

Is your question about design ideas for the galleries, storage or other behind the scenes things, or something else? Might find some info on various wiki pages like https://indieweb.org/gallery and https://indieweb.org/photo

We recently had a photography popup meetup. I imagine there will be more (cc [Al_Abut]) Here was the last one: https://events.indieweb.org/2025/12/photography-popup-1-OaWgUHup1PkG

But yeah, definitely all types of personal sites are indieweb. You don't have to post a reverse chronological list of text posts :)

In the "weird web traffic data point" I got a note from my hosts that one of the sites I managed was getting an onslaught of traffic from Tor addresses. _"receiving very significant volumes of traffic from TOR IP addresses" ..._ no evidence it was LLM/AI traffic but I'll be watching.
#
[tantek]
according to cloudflare they served 52GB of traffic for my site in December which seems excessive, especially with all their bot blocking
