someone needs to code up a heuristic for isthisrepoliveornot(.com)

the thing github activity doesn't capture is when the code works just fine as is

i have some projects i haven't changed in a long time (years?) that I still use every day
#
[schmarty]
i'm low-key excited that one of the weird trends of tech companies' AI addiction is the public announcements that certain services are entering "maintenance" or "sustaining engineering" modes
parnikkapore_x joined the channel
#
[schmarty]
even before the rush to cram "AI" into every thing, i was already tired of the "churn" of products and services continually changing things (and raising prices)
#
[schmarty]
so while i definitely worry that the next step after "maintenance" is "shutting down", i can't help but feel a little relieved! like "oh thank goodness, they won't be cramming an LLM into that"

gRegor: if I read it correctly, the two releases you mentioned came after the issue was filed. (And after a request in Discussions from another person asking to take over maintenance.)

Hah! I tried to install the forked version, and got a composer error ("opencal/ical dev-main requires ext-mbstring * but it is not present.") Upstream installed just fine! :-D
#
gRegor
I'm just saying they posted in May, forked in June, and since then there's been two releases. Doesn't seem to point to the original repo being unmaintained, maybe just slower than that person wanted.
#
gRegor
I thought you weren't wanting to pursue a Drupal module/OOP though?
ggarcia24 and simoneti joined the channel
#
btrem
I see what you're saying. But the order might matter. That is, the person who forked it couldn't have known that there would be two releases after the fork IYSWIM. I guess the question is when was the last release prior to the fork, no?
#
btrem
And I don't want to pursue a Drupal module/OOP. Except that I sort of do. :-D I'll just sticking my toe in the water. It's likely that I'll find it too cold and pull it out. Probably sooner rather than later. ;-)

gRegor
haha, well good luck :) I'm still kinda new to Drupal modules but I did develop one in the last year, so happy to try to answer any questions
#
btrem
Like the module would have to provide an interface to map Drupal fields to iCal fields. And be able to handle more than one content type in the same view. That alone is probably more than I can execute. But nothing to lose in trying. Except a bit of my sanity.

gRegor++ I might just take you up on that.

I missed that part of the meeting. I'd certainly welcome a replacement for content-security-policy, which I find difficult to edit.
#

If in fact it is a replacement for csp. ;-)

they have different but overlapping use-cases

CrowderSoup: is there a way of deleting my garden profile? I used mastodon to verify but I changed my mind and want to use indieauth instead. Do I just remove the gardn authentication in mastodon settings? thanks

#
CrowderSoup
As long as the domain is the same as what you used when you signed up with mastodon it will automatically connect the accounts. If not, I can delete for you! And I will be adding a profile delete button asap.

today i fixed two small things on my site: a, h-entry pages now have their internal uuid attached properly (previously it was wrongly parenthesised)
#
ulhar4409
and b, my codebase can now properly *read* those uuids for tasks like editing posts over micropub

i also want to try getting something like a feed-generation step going but not sure where to start on that tbh

CrowderSoup: I just want to unlink Mastodon because my profile description on there is too long for Gardn. Thanks for adding the delete button.

today in yak-shaving: VSCode on my laptop upgraded itself and now won't run because the Chromium version deprecated Mac OS Big Sur - OK, I'll update the laptop to Monterey. After the download and install it refuses to boot on the MacBook because it can't update the internal firmware becasue I swapped out the intern drive when it swelled up a few years ago.
#
[KevinMarks]
so now I am looking in Hackintosh forums on how to update EFI and OpenCore, which is pretty antithetical to the Apple ethos from my day there of "It Just Works"
#

aaronpk It looks like I can add any domain I want on the "Sites" page on webmention.io:

capjamesg: yes that's how it's supposed to work. Then you would need to add the webmention endpoint it creates to that website
#
capjamesg
I see. Thanks for the clarification!
#
aaronpk
The webmention endpoint has a unique ID so it's not like you can just go add someone else's domain and get their web mentions

I asked Claude Code to try to do https://github.com/snarfed/granary/issues/1036 . It planned for a while, then died with https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issues/20571 🤷

Is there a modern take on the "hamburger" menu that is accessible?
#
[tantek]
Or HTML+CSS only?
deathcomestotime and mandaris joined the channel
#
mandaris
I'd prefer html+css only but JS is a thing nowadays.
#
mandaris
I was actually looking at that today and prompted me to ask this group.

[Murray]
I think that's still one of the best options. Most other HTML+CSS only menus are sadly inaccessible, and not really fit for use as a result. That said, I've really enjoyed this perspective from Jim Nielsen: https://blog.jim-nielsen.com/2025/lots-of-little-html-pages/
#
[Murray]
Basically: why does a hamburger menu need to be anything more than a link? Particularly now that we have View Transitions, is there much of a reason *not* to do this (answer: there are some, but it's nowhere near as many as there used to be)
#
ulhar4409
details element could work as a "base", and then be transformed by JS if desired

tantek well i'm myself a mastodon guy, buy it's quite an interesting read with reasonable points, the dude did his dissertation on that (and apparently more from a social sciences pov)

gRegor or [artlung]: do you know of any intermediate-level tutorials for building a Drupal module? I went through a "hello world" lesson. It was fine. But there's a still quite steep climb to doing something meaningful.
#
btrem
meta: this question definitely belongs in #dev. But I'm pretty sure I could have asked in #indie and not gotten a wrist slap from Loqi. :-D
#
aaronpk
adds "drupal module" to the list
#
aaronpk
"drupal" by itself isn't appropriate for the jargon list, "module" is borderline
#
btrem
Well, looks like I missed my chance to sneak tech talk into the main channel.
#

#
btrem
No problem. Just thought I'd ask.
#
[tantek]
module is sort of like plugin or add-on right?
#
btrem
I'd say more like plugin than add-on, but yes.
#
btrem
It seems very much like the plugins I can add or create for my 11ty setup.
