hmm, saw an article about the "Mastodon link previews accidentally DDoS websites" thing again and now i'm a little curious about countermeasures
#
ulhar4409
it sounds like the biggest issue is when the preview image gets fetched?

maybe, if an image gets requested by a known-problematic user agent enough times, it can be redirected to a lower-resolution thumbnail

@Ulhar I've seen some people suggest this: https://jort.link/

huh, that ping didn't work. Trying that again: ulhar4409[d]

I’m sorry for opening the JSON-LD can of worms yesterday and then stepping out of the chat for the rest of the afternoon! I appreciate that there has been a lot of debate about this in the past.
#
[manton]
Pulling back from JSON-LD specifically, I do there are areas where ActivityPub (and related specs) could be simplified and better documented with real-world use cases. There is a lot of cruft and redundancy to be compatible with various implementations.

Indeed. Those are the kinds of areas/issues would be useful to file on the specs.

first social web wg meeting went fairly well. got a couple of resolutions. [manton] it was announced that you're IE application was approved by the chair and is waiting on W3C staff to process it. minutes: https://hackmd.io/PaXqEd7-T7CLULV9Y4nwcA?view

your* IE application

[tantek]
aaronpk wdyt about the WG meeting? also, what's your interest / availability to edit maintenance revisions of your specs? if you availability is low (or prefer not to deal with W3C Process), I can step up as a co-editor to try to burn down the open issues and get updated specs published

[tantek] Great, glad it went well! I got an email about the application being approved too. Will join the calls from now on, had to be out running errands today.

[tantek]: sorry i had to drop off half way through, was getting new internet installed here. i'm interested in doing updates to the specs, but i have very limited bandwidth
#
[tantek]
great! sounds like maybe co-editing may help move things forward more quickly then?
#
aaronpk
yes sounds reasonable

re: git branches. Depends on what constitutes “working on your website”. If it's “just” content in markdown, probably not. [Al_Abut] you could always cherry pick or branch off at any point if you care that much. Don't over think it.

New feature, breaking changes, things that might take a while (due to time) to complete or throwaway experiments, then branches make sense to me.
