[morgan] @calciume TLDR you might have luck with usage of semantic HTML/best practice ideas for for headings, meta description tags, robots.txt discoverability, and then if it comes down to it you gotta submit it to google search inspection tool to get index'd.
#
[morgan] Then in the world we live in gotta accept you are competing with ads and other things
#
[morgan] If you share your site I can try and give a few tips
#
ZodiacalComet I'm curious. Is it normal for the description in the search result taking part of a page's content if its meta tag is really short?
#
[morgan] Im not sure, and the way they document it/what you might find if you search might not be based on any solid footing. My basic approximation is that they take into account a number of features - length of the page, quality of the keywords or frequency of them, the bots looks a bunch of stuff and come up with a result. Basically you can try and put your best foot forward for what you want it to be but there is no guarantees
#
[morgan] Examples if you have your own site in search might help. Theres things you can do to put a 'foot forward' but its basically an opaque bot decision
#
ZodiacalComet That made me remember of how the title of my homepage changed depending on the search query in DuckDuckGo. Though as you say, it might be its "opinion" of what's best since it was generic.
#
ZodiacalComet Mine appears by searching my username in there. I've made the description longer since then when it was just "Personal site of X" initially.
#
[morgan] I was about to give advice about semantic headings like `h1` and `h2` and so on, and I just actually realized that Im not using those for what ends up as my description in google search. It really is like astrology or something overall, you can put stuff into the mix, but theres not really solid ways that things show up

[morgan] `<meta name="description" content="a website by Beau Morgan Murrah, delivering a simpler side of technology and civics commentary.">` does seem to have been adopted overall by google search as my descriptor though
#
ZodiacalComet So it's more like trying to guide it, with tons of trial and error. Got it. Will continue to experiment from time to time with it. Thanks, [morgan]++
