Happy to help, btrem! Thought I just noticed because I threw a lot of prints along the way

I really dislike the VS Code tries to make the integrated browser a default. I didnt fully pick at it, but its basically embedded and doesnt have the surrounding panes for dev tools? or your favorites, or extensions, you want to use. Thinking about adding some criticism to the wiki on this

Not sure if its really that relevant on second thought, but anyways, a thought

i've been looking into indieweb and want to build one for myself, i'm thinking of using svelte and hosting it with cloudflare workers. i also want to publish blogs and stuff. any recommendations for a beginner? thanks!

What is getting started?
#
Loqi
🌱 Get started on the indieweb by connecting with the IndieWeb community, getting a personal domain, a place for your content, and setting up your home page and other IndieWeb essentials https://indieweb.org/Getting_started
#
[capjamesg]
You might like that wiki page ^^

If you are looking to build a site with code, feel free to use any technology that you want to play with.
#
[capjamesg]
We have at least one community member who uses Svelte: https://indieweb.org/Svelte

oh wow, thank you so much!

You’re welcome! Of course feel free to ask questions here too — we’re here to chat!

i've known about indieweb for years, but it's only now that i'm starting to seriously to build my own web. it's very exciting :)
#
[capjamesg]
Yeah! There are plenty of people here doing exactly that too.
#
thamara_k
Welcome, yohan!
#
yohan
though, i also hear about nearlyfreespeech.net. what do you guys recommend between this and cloudflare workers?
#
[capjamesg]
I haven’t used it personally, nor Cloudflare Workers.
#
yohan
hmm... i find NFS interesting on how it's pre-paying, but cloudflare workers may be easier to use?
#
[capjamesg]
It’s worth searching online to see if anyone has blogged about each option.
#
yohan
can i ask which one are you using? or are you self-hosted
#
[capjamesg]
I use a static site generator on a server.
#
[capjamesg]
I like using tech that I know I can keep running for years.
#
yohan
on a server as in you self-host it?
#
[capjamesg]
In the cloud. I use Hetzner, a German server provider.
#
yohan
ohhh i see
#
[capjamesg]
I have been doing this for at least two years and it works for me. But of course everyone does something a little different.
#
yohan
thank you! i'll look into it :D
#
[capjamesg]
Most welcome! The wiki is generally a good place to search for different tech / hosting platforms / self-hosting vs. cloud.

If you're just getting started there are loads of free alternatives to try as well though

Ill just throw in there that Netlify may not be the best but it has a freemium "Dropzone" or "Drag a folder and deploy" feature that is appealing to some people for its simplicity. It keeps me coming back somehow even if there are better options.

Is it okay for an IndieAuth server to issue tokens that don’t expire?
#
aaronpk
That's your choice if you are comfortable with the implications of that. There is no requirement either way in the spec
#
gRegor
I made an option on the confirmation screen of mine to make the token not expire

What is link repair?
#
Loqi
link repair is the practice of repairing broken hyperlinks on your personal site, especially on older posts where the links were valid as of the time of the post but have stopped working since https://indieweb.org/link_repair
#
[tantek]
ideally I think link repair is something that is content-centric rather than dev-centric and something that everyone writing for the web would be interested in
