@jorisvandijk: could be, but i just did a WHOIS lookup and it seems that it still has a year before the domain expires. could just be a person who forgot about their coolsite™

my SSG is finally finally ready for real use. well, almost almost. I just need to do a few designs and get my templates in order. and i need to author content for it.
#
WinnerWind
the hardest part of making a plugin based SSG has to be the plugins themselves. each plugin i wrote is very dependent on other plugins

some cool premade pixel art borders, if your website has a pixel-art vibe :D https://maxbittker.github.io/broider/
#
WinnerWind
it does have a pixel art vibe!

There are tons of them, this guy really gifted me something great!

I'm checking how can I alter the color somehow to my color palette, I will report back if I find a way
#
WinnerWind
neither of these fit the vibe i want BUT these are an interesting resource. i wanted to get a pixelart dropshadow thing working first
#
chr0m4
Yep, emulating pixel art with css is tough, I'm looking into it right now

it is. right now im trying to do a dithered shadow but it's not easy!
#
WinnerWind
OK, i think i got it right BUT the CSS and HTML is fighting me to layout this element properly

wohoo!!!!!! got the drop shadow working
#
WinnerWind
the checkerboard pattern took me ages. writing all those box-shadow lines killed me inside..... there has to be a better way to dot his
#
WinnerWind
aaaaand it broke on mobile

decided to learn what a "linear gradient" was in CSS and used that to make the checkers! https://x0.at/CAce.png. took me ages. in short, what im doing is that im creating four squares by creating unreasonably small linear gradients and then im offsetting each square by an offset in the background-image of a wrapper div to create the pattern
#
WinnerWind
code will be uploaded soon™
#
WinnerWind
another trick i learnt is to move the wrapper one way but to move the child the opposite way. this way you can offset ONLY the window child and not the wrapper which is creating the shadow on its entire background

stopwatch says this task took 1 hour 48 minutes (ಥ﹏ಥ)

moving this question here: hi! i'm making a toy social media website for fun and i'm thinking of ways to make it more indieweb-y. so far i'm planning adding indielogin/auth (is this the right documentation? https://indielogin.com/api) and IRC (any recommendations on embedding an IRC chat?). any other ideas?
#
dowy_vz
[Jo] already suggested micropub/sub so i'm looking into that. so far what i understand from it is that you let the user be able to create a post from any third party micropub clients right?
#
[Murray]
Yeah, but also possibly bidirectionally. I guess a truly "IndieWeb" social media service would almost allow you to use your own website as the backend, and then aggregate interactions on your behalf. So if I posted to my website, your site would pull that in, and then push back out likes, comments etc. as webmentions.
#
[Murray]
If you haven't already, consider taking a look at http://Micro.blog, which is the most IndieWeb social site around at the moment

fine I'll do it myself 😄 https://indieweb.org/Micro.blog

To be honest, these days I'd also consider looking into the ATProtocol stuff, but might be overkill for what you're thinking about 🙂

interesting. so i'm making this site with the gimmick of only allowing a single post. i guess would it be possible to implement micropub in such i way that it's always linked to the same post in the users website right?
#
aaronpk
also i would read the spec at https://indieauth.spec.indieweb.org instead of the indielogin API docs

got it. gonna read that! also any tips on adding an irc client to the website? how is this one made?
grufwub and cotsuka joined the channel
#
aaronpk
it uses an IRC client library and then has an API that the website uses to do IRC things

What is monogram?
#
Loqi
Monogram is an idea for minimal Micropub client and minimal service that allows you to have one of everything: one post, one like, one reply, one follow, and taking one of those actions replaces the previous one in the service https://indieweb.org/Monogram
#
[tantek]
lol Monogram brainstorm had its 10th birthday earlier this month and we completely forgot 🥳
#
[tantek]
dowy_vz, re: "only allowing a single post", see that Monogram brainstorm page above ^^
#
[tantek]
aaronpk yes! At IWS 2016!
#
[tantek]
I think it may have been a lunchtime or after drinks brainstorm in 2016 and then we kept coming back to it in subsequent years, iterating on the concept
#
aaronpk
wait i remember discussing that in austin

Yes after IWS 2016, we discussed it again at 2017, then IWC AUS 2020

Howdy, IndieWeb. I'm trying to add microformats to posts on a little blogging platform I'm working on. I feel like I've got them hooked up right, but indiewebify.me validator isn't finding an h-entry. Would someone mind taking a quick look to see if I'm missing anything obvious? https://blog.densford.net/posts/7

I'm dumb. It's a React issue. (Only using it to learn it for job reasons...)

cobbland, there's a bunch of folks here using React on their personal sites, using SSR I believe
#
[tantek]
What is React?
#
Loqi
React (also called ReactJS) is an open source client-side JavaScript web framework created by Facebook and has been used on some indieweb sites https://indieweb.org/React
#
cobbland
Thanks for the tips and the welcome! (I've been lurking around for a few years now, but rarely interact.)
#
cobbland
What is SSR?
#
Loqi
Server-Side Rendering (SSR), is the traditional technique of rendering HTML pages on the server, as opposed to Client-Side Rendering using JavaScript in the browser https://indieweb.org/SSR
#
cobbland
Oh, that makes sense. Dang. Guess I'll be pretty much rewriting this whole thing eventually. (At least my personal website is safe — cobb.land)
