[tantek] highly recommend train wifi for testing your website / webapp / native app to see just how sloppy your network dependencies are (vs how well you've minimized network dependencies / requests / bandwidth and maximized robust async network access, especially with respect to decoupling *any* UI interactivity from network access). even on an ICE train, the network is interestingly spotty
#
Loqi It looks like we don't have a page for "i2p" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "i2p is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[tantek] I2P is [[Wikipedia:I2P]]
#
[capjamesg] I explored a bit of this in https://jamesg.blog/2024/06/03/train-wifi-test.
#
[tantek] poor network latency sometimes results in too eager a "Slack couldn't send this message. Retry? Cancel" error. This is something annoying about chat apps vs say email apps which are typically written with much more robust async network access and don't require the user to keep clicking "retry".
#
[capjamesg] There’s certainly more to be written on the topic!

lecaseus Hello anyone, though this isn’t really related to indieweb I thought I’d still ask around here. So I’ve been joining and putting a bunch of webrings’ widgets on my site and for some reason my home wifi mesh detects phishing and instantly pauses internet access on my device.
#
IWDiscord <lecaseus>
#
lecaseus This also happens when I visit other personal sites though I can’t really pinpoint which ones because the threat records on my mesh doesn’t list the sites it flagged as phishing. Weird.

#
lecaseus I have a speculation that it may be a third party script or a link tag that came with the widgets, and I could prolly just do trial and error, but I am wondering what ya’ll think…
#
WinnerWind lecaseus: hard to diagnose unless the type of webring URL you're using. if its loading in script tags then maybe its a spotty script but if not, and you're using <img> wrapped in an <a> tag, that would be highly weird
#
WinnerWind is this wifi mesh Deco? i have a Deco mesh and it complains similarly about this. there isnt a solution other than to disable their firewall (imo it's not even a good threat protection. it lets a lot of actual threats through)

lecaseus WinnerWind: No, mine is eero. And its weird because it only pauses my internet when it detects threats past 9pm but any other threats during daytime and it still lets me browse fine
#
lecaseus I think it could be file.garden or the <script defer> from softmachine.dev because my other rings are just redirect buttons like with IndieWeb

[rose] That's my feeling right now. Mastered the art of text zoom with a reaaaally strict grid design that contained visual elements etc. It took forever and I was tempted to not bother because the client isn't bothering with other aspects of accessibility that'd be a lot easier to fix... but I did it! And learnt more about clamp in the process.

[capjamesg] [Rose]++ Amazing!

[capjamesg] I think karma is deserved when we find confidence in something related to the web!

[rose] 😄 Thanks James. Well, yeah, I am glad I persisted. It was one of those weird things where it was bothering me and then suddenly, literally in the shower, I thought... WAIT: what if we switched to using rem for the size in the clamp of the cell in the grid background element. Then I realised switching text sizes around to use a mix of vw and rem would solve the last problem.
