[tantek]!tell [snarfed] I have an update on the "updating a post" bug. It looks partially fixed. I updated my Spider-Man watch post with two hashtags (#2026_212 #20260731), sent a webmention to BridgyFed, and the update did propagate to work for the first of the two hashtags but not the second. Could this be because the first has a _ and the second is all numbers?
[rose]I'll probably move this to a domain of its own, cos it's not exactly easy to integrate into my homepage... Plus I think it would forever remind me that I should have made this BEFORE I chose a colour scheme for my website...
[rose]Still need to tweak some things. Might also try making Balanced mode less, I dunno, oddly unbalanced despite its numbers being so middle of the road?? Anyway, though, you get the idea...
[rose]@thamara_k so was I... now I have shamefully developed a tool with a much better "eye" for colour than me. My mum is an artist. Dad's a chartered accountant. I got dad's genes: used maths to solve a design problem... LOL.
[rose][aciccarello] Glad it is helpful! It is one of those things I designed more for me then realised it didn't need too much to be useful to others...
cobbland, [aciccarello] and artlung joined the channel
[tantek]should I add .webp support to the CASSIS auto_link function (which also auto-embeds images) ? anybody have code using CASSIS have an opinion on this?
[tantek][snarfed] follow-up on that post updating experience with Bridgy Fed and the two tags. This time I put two similar tags in the post for the original webmention/federation and same result. the hashtag with the _ worked, and Mastodon somehow didn't accept (or there's a weird parsing bug somewhere along the way) the tag with only numbers
[tantek]do you think you could take a look to see if your tag/hashtag parsing code in Bridgy Fed could possibly accidentally turn a string of all numbers into a number type which would likely show up wrong in the ActivityStream snippet sent to Mastodon?
[tantek]like if the name of the tag shows up as a JSON number rather than a JSON string, I suspect that would be invalid ActivityStreams and Mastodon would reject it
[rose]The other one is very impressive. Just it isn't very... at a glancey? The fact you have to focus in and read the text definitions of comfortable or whatever.
[mikemai2awesom]> ⚠️ #DC143C couldn't be used as-is – it doesn't leave enough contrast headroom anywhere in this palette. Used the closest accessible version, #A20027, instead (lightness shifted 12%). Applied to the dark theme as a background, and the light theme as an accent colour.
[rose]TBH it didn't pass the tests as is so that would mean it's not acceptable for use in many situations. But yeah underlines aren't an issue, at least for me.
[tantek]alright, I think I can solve my specific use-case for these numerical hashtags while procrastinating attempting to solve the general problem of fully numeric hashtags
[tantek]has anyone here used (or wanted to use) hashtags for dates in their posts? e.g. a photo post you make a day (or more) after taking the photo, you might want to "tag" the photo with the actual date it was taken. similarly for posts about events you attended (or reviews thereof) in the past.
[tantek]not seeing much evidence/discussion online with simple web searches. and I'm pretty sure I haven't blogged about this myself either (despite practicing it for many years on my posts on my own site and in IG)
[artlung]I don't view a year as a hashtag in the normal sense. Probably discouraged by silos, seems like. I do like things by year, I have SDCCYYYY and inktoberYYYY tags for that.
[tantek]not all mentions of years sure, however that very issue 333 you linked has a few people wanting to hashtag just the year with real content examples
[tantek]part of the value of a hashtag is in gathering posts that authors meant the same thing when they used it, in that way, plain number (4 digit or otherwise) may be too broad to be worth aggregating
[tantek]it's not unreasonable to propose something like #Y2026 for year 2026 as a hashtag, somewhat following on from "Y2K" being an existing named well understood thing
